Everything to like. A rambling eclectic display, but a good mix of art, sculpture, tapestry and silverware within wonderful historic interiors. Staff were excellent, very helpful and polite and just perfect.

The museum is interesting, but what makes it special is the largest collection of carvings by Tilman Riemenschneider anywhere. He was a truly great worker in wood and stone, and it's wonderful to see so much of his work in one place, There are other things well worth seeing, including fine collections of porcelain and silver, as well as some good paintings. Unless you are prepared for a climb up the hill to the fortress, Marienberg, in which the museum is housed, drive or take a taxi as we did.

Whilst it is in the Marienberg Fortress this museum needs to be visited in its own right partly because it is a large place and requires several hours to do it justice and partly because it is not just a museum and has a collection of paintings and sculpture that are of international value.
The sculpture of Tilman Riemenschnieder 1460 (contemporary with Michaelangelo) and his school is so good and beautifully displayed and lit. It is worth going for these alone. There are also a number of other works which are of such quality that you need to spend a long time looking.
Other areas concerning the wine growing life in Wurzburg its history are all well displayed with excellent information in different languages.
