I was lucky to visit on a cool day without many tourists so it was like wandering through my own elaborate garden. The outlooks are impressive

We did the escorted tour of Marienberg and the gardens. The tour was very informative and it is worth it if only for the views from the gardens over the city alone!

My 2nd visit here, mostly for the museum & Riemenschneider research, so didn't go into the fortress proper. But did a lot of wandering around, including the towers where prisoners were kept. Museum & information staff quite helpful.

From its hill top the fortress dominates the city. The garden is on the river side and it is the best place to view the river and the city. It is not to large, but the gardens are very well maintained.

Lovely peaceful garden with roses when we were there, places to sit. Very good view over rooftops and city so good place to take photos. This was a bonus gem of a find in this very busy city. Entry was free.
