Description: The pulse of Franconia beats in the heart of Wuerzburg. You can feel it ? Or rather taste it - in the historic surroundings of the Stachel, which is a restaurant and wine bar. As a wine bar, the Stachel offers the best wines in Franconia. There is wine tasting every Saturday in the restaurant's very own wine cellar. You also need something solid to line your stomach, so that the wine does not go to your head. Franconian delicacies and the presentation is creative. He cooks authentically using locally sourced ingredients which are mostly organic ? And it shows in the taste.

I prefer the small uncomfortable triangular table in the window alcove. There you get the feel of this 500-year-old restaurant. The service and food has always been borderline luxurious. The wines are outstanding and the atmosphere may be the best in town. If you have more than a day or two in town do not miss this restaurant.

We went here on our first night in Wurzburg, we were still jet lagged and had sleeped till 8.30pm so we arrived at 9.30pm and were seated. The atmosphere was good with a local charm and we didn't know what to expect. The menu was in German but we were ably helped by the head waiter who also recommed a wine. As the the restaurant crowd thinned out the waiter came back during our meal and had a bit of a chat and found out we were interested in wine. He then came back with 2004 Riesling from the local region and offered us a sample it was excellent. He also showed us some of the red varieties from the region which he recommended. This really topped off the meal and the evening and not what we had expected. We had a very enjoyable experience and was a great introduction to our Wurzburg stay.
