“Beautiful small Hotel in the real Germany!”
Reviewed September 8, 2011

This is the way to see Germany: quaint little hotel in a small gorgeous town like Rothenburg. This is more like someone's home: very clean rooms with T.V. and very clean bathroom. Parking is included in the backyard of the property surrounded by flowers and fruit trees.
Once you get past the guardcat - a rather plump, spoiled house cat - the home is very old but well maintained. Rooms are typical small but very confortable with nice firm beds: it is located just outside the old Wall which surrounds Rothenburg and within walking distance of one of the most beautiful Towns in Germany. History goes back to the 9th century and there is plenty to see if one is into historical sites.
The morning breakfast, included in the price of 70 euros, for 2 people was held in a large family room: we were served meats, cheese, eggs, fresh bread, juices, coffee, tea, etc as much as you wanted. Everything was fresh, hot and served with a morning greeting!
All in all, a beautiful small place to get a good sleep and great breakfast at a great price.

We had a one night stay here on our trip through Bavaria. Not what you are looking for if you want an ultra modern urban feel hotel. It IS what you are looking for if you want a charming, old world feel with modern conveniences in a GREAT location. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return. The service was attentive, the included breakfast was excellent and the hotel owners were warm and welcoming. It was a short walk to the Klingentor gate which led into the medieval city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber - bonus!

Herr Wagenlander and his wife are exceptionally welcoming, gracious and accommodating hosts. My single room was simply but nicely furnished with a good size bathroom and came with breakfast - a traditional german one but he will cook you an egg instead For 39 euros this was an excellent value. Herr Wagenlander cooks a meal each night and although you must be seated by 7Pm if it is something you like it is worth having dinner there. Everything is made from scratch and the price is more than reasonable.- i had a full three course dinner and large beer for 17 euros. After dinner you can have a nice walk through the town after the day tripper hordes have left. The hotel is not inside the walls but just outside the Klingentor gate. i have no reservations in highly recommending this hotel and gasthof.

Stayed at this guest house several times (10) over the last 20 years, each time has been excellent. The location is ideal only 3 minutes walk to the centre of Rothenberg. The owners have been the same on each visit, very hlpful and even allowed our 3 bikes oto be out n the secure garage each time.

this is a fabulous hotel ideally located for the town. The family that run it are fantastic and make you fel part of the family.

Ive stayed here 3 times now and tey remembered me every time. I intend to go back this year with my own little ones, just like Frau waglander said she would see us with.

The rooms are very comfortable just what you need after hours on the autobahn

food is excellent, just what you need after a day in town exploring.

I look forward t going again

We stayed one night at Gasthof Klingentor for a quick 1 day/1 night stopover in Rothenburg.

Booking directly with the property owner was simple.

It is my understanding that the Wagenländer family runs the hotel and restaurant. All of the staff/family were helpful. The man (and chef) that checked us in personally showed us to our room, told us all the details for getting to the walled city and the Night Watchman Tour, and gave us a map and marked where the hotel was on the map for us - in English. The restaurant was closed that night, so he advised us of this fact to make sure we obtained dinner in town.

The room was clean and comfortable, with ample storage room, should we have stayed longer. The bed was very comfortable, and the color painted was actually quite calming after hours on the Autobahn. The bathroom was small (like most in Europe), but well appointed and excellent water pressure in the shower. The windows opened wide, and there was heat if we needed it.

The location was just outside the Klingentor gate, so it was easy to find by car, with adequate free parking. I'm not sure how easy it would be to walk to it from the train station, but it would be a quick and inexpensive ride by taxi.

I wish the restaurant had been open that night, as breakfast was beautifully presented to us and we would have love to have tried dinner. Each table was marked with a room number, and breakfast included fresh fruit, yogurt, meat, cheese, fresh bread and rolls, fresh pressed apple juice, and all the coffee or tea we could have wanted.

Very good price for the amenities and meal and parking and location, and we would stay again in a heartbeat - this time we'd stay longer in this lovely city.
