We were very happy with our choice to stay at Pension Elke. We walked throughout most of the city and we realized that Pension Elke is really at its best location.

We first entered Pension Elke through a supermarket as the rooms are above the supermarket.

Klaus, the owner, came towards to us to confirm our check in and he later asked us where is our car and gave us a tip to park our car along the city wall as it was free. That was a bonus for us parking could go up to 2 Euros for an hour.
Anyway, Klaus helped us to carry one of our luggage up to our room and introduced us to our very cosy and clean room.
Just one thing to note is that if you have heavy bags with you on the trip, there is no lift to bring you up. Everything is all by stairs. But that was okay for us as we were light travelers.

The room had a TV, welcome plate with nuts and chocolates. free wifi included.

The bathroom was clean and had a heater inside which helped a lot !

Bring your own toiletries as none will be provided. Not a problem for us as we usually bring our own shampoo and soap.

Pension Elke is located just literally 3 minutes walk to the town hall where the Christmas market is and the shopping stretch. Well, even the street that Pension Elke was on had many interesting shops and had a great Kebab place just about 5 shops away which opened late, so it was good for us.

Having a supermarket where you are staying is a great idea as we could easily get out drinks, fruits and snacks for the day. The supermarket also had souvenirs which were very interesting.

The room rate comes with breakfast which was one of the most amazing breakfast we had thus far on our journey.

Klaus ( the owner ) is one hard working person and so passionate about what he is doing. He wAs making sure that the buffet breakfast was always filled up with food so that all the guests can enjoy the spread.

Things were fresh as everything was coming from his supermarket! How great is that.

The buffet breakfast included different bread, cereals, yogurt, cheese, juice, milk, tea, coffee and fruits!

Everything in Pension Elke was just filled with love and passion from
The Elke family.

If you have any questions on places to go, Kluas who speaks good English will be able to advice you accordingly.

Great place to stay!

I stayed with 2 other friends (they took a double and I took the single). The rooms were comfortable and quiet and Pension Elke is situated in the old town which is beautiful. klaus was helpful and carried my case up the stairs. The view from my room was lovely. The breakfast was beautifully set out and delicious. I would stay again and recommend it to others.

The Pension is ideally located in the center of the town just a 2 minute walk to the main square. Klaus was there to greet us and carry our luggage up to our room which was spotless and had a great view of one of the clock towers. Our room, #7, had 2 bedrooms, one of which we used for a sitting room, and a private bath. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with a wide variety of fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, cereals and assortment of fresh bakery items including the local specialty of schneeballen (snowballs).
If you weren't to full from your big breakfast, it was awfully convenient to walk downstairs and get all you needed for a picnic lunch at the grocery store.

Highlights of the beautiful town were the amazing views from walking the wall, St Jackob & St Wolfgang Churches, the Medieval Criminal Museum and the Night Watchman Tour.

We stayed one night recently in the Pension Elke and it was adequate. The room was comfortable for the most part, clean, and the breakfast was good. It was somewhat difficult to carry our luggage up the steep, narrow stairs to get to our room but it was manageable (no help was offered by the owner, however). I was surprised that there was no soap in the bathroom (I had read this same comment before) and when I mentioned this to Klaus, he handed me a small bar without saying a word. Was I wrong to expect this amenity in the bathroom without making an issue of it? We stayed in Germany, Switzerland and Austria over a 2-week period and never experienced this anywhere else. Perhaps someone needs to explain to Mr. Enders the responsibilities of running a pension. We were not greeted or welcomed to this establishment either, although in his defense, I got the imprression Klaus doesn't speak English very well. In summary, this pension was perfectly adequate for lodging a night or two even though it was not the most convenient. And if you decide to stay here, don't forget to bring some soap. I would recommend that you look at the others available in Rothenburg first and keep this one for a last resort.

Room Tip: I would pick another gasthaus, hotel, or pension in Rothenburg OBT before this one.

We stayed here for one night and was delighted by the cuteness of the Pension. Klaus and his father Erich run a tight ship and in fact, actually built the pension. Both are very hard working (I would imagine dad is in his 80s). Not only do they run the bed and breakfast, they also run the grocery store downstairs 7 days a week all day long.

Klaus was very kind. When we arrived, he carried up our heavy luggage up a few flights of stairs (single handed!) for us. Definitely appreciated that. We got a room that had a shared washroom which was very reasonable. We had our own wash basin in our room which made it easier. We only had to share the washroom with another couple. The place was clean and tidy. We really enjoyed the breakfast which had a massive buffet of fruits, breads, eggs, ham, smoked salmon, vegetables, etc. all for €55 for the two of us. Couldn't have asked for any place better. It was central as well (right in the heart of the old town). Definitely will be back if we ever visit Rothenburg again.

We picked this pension based on great Trip Advisor reviews and it was perfect for us. The owners are very responsive on the email, very friendly, and provide the best German style breakfast we had all week. We had forgotten that German lodgings don't provide washcloths, but that was on us. The pension is in the old city and extremely walkable from the train station (ten minutes) and all around the beautiful town.

We stayed with Klaus and his father Erich and enjoyed our stay immensely. The rooms are above a grocery store, but they were clean and comfortable. It was one of the better breakfasts we've had, and it is included in the price of the room! I would recommend if you are only looking for a room.
