Im really not sure how to review this hotel.... I can't get over the pink sheets! This was a very old hotel. All of the people working there were very nice. Did I mention this is a very old hotel. Maybe all of them are in this area I'm not sure.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights on our way through Germany. The welcome was warm, helpful and casual; they didn't ask us to fill in any forms or ask for our passports, but they immediately came to help with bags, car parking, etc. (The garage - 9 euros per day - is quite a hike from the hotel, but you can get as much help as you want.)

We were enamoured with the walled city. It's such a contrast from outside, which is quite industrial a few miles away, and then, closer to the city, quite plain. The walled city is like a giant dolls house without being too twee, since it's not contrived, it has always been as it is, apparently, so it is really quite something to see. You probably only need to spend a day here, strolling around the cobbles, eating the strange snowball confections that are available on almost every street in the centre (Schneeballes - something like that - fried dough filled with various flavoured creams, sort of like a doughnut. Should be tried. Once.) and exploring the towers and museums. Once you have been to all four corners of the city and read all the history, it's probably time to move on. We didn't have time to do sightseeing outside of the city in Rothenburg, so I can't comment on that aspect. There is a massive Christmas museum and shop which, if you like that kind of thing (in the middle of summer!) could easy use up a few hours. It's an enormous place - the sheer scale of it is daunting - with every kind of Christmas trinket (baubles, place settings, advent calendars, tree decorations, and so on) you could possibly imagine. I though it was absolutely ghastly and creepy, but very fascinating. There are also a couple of teddy bear shops for the children to wander through and try to fleece their parents. Be warned: it is a very touristy place and we occasionally found ourselves caught up in large groups being led by a man with a large sunflower! Wander around the back streets a little bit to get out of the crowds - there are some smaller, cheaper restaurants off the beaten track.

There are many hotels within the walls and quite a few were advertising availability. They all look very nice. The Tilman Riemenschneider was good for our needs. The family room was split into two (so we could be a little bit separate from the children. It was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning but they gave us a portable fan which was fine. The room was very well equipped and the staff friendly and not at all intrusive. Breakfast was nothing special - pretty much what you'd expect. It was, like everything in the area, quite expensive though at euro 410 for two nights plus the parking. I would recommend the hotel as having no downsides that I can think of, but I would suggest you only need one night in Rothenburg walled city. Also, don't be tempted to buy silly trinkets which would cost you less in Central London!

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the town as opposed to the back streets.

We planned a last minute trip to Rothenburg. We searched for rooms located on the Marktplatz but could not find any. We booked rooms at the Tilman for two nights. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from the Marktplatz as is away from the noise of the town square. We we arrived, we were greated by the front desk clerk who helped us carry our luggage to our room. The room had a canopied bed and had rose petals scattered on the bed. How romantic. On the table was a bottle of chilled water and fresh fruit - at no extra charge! As others had said, the breakfast was traditional German fare with cold cuts, breads, cereals, etc - all that you need to start your day off on the right foot. Dont miss the second floor vending machine - you can get a beer, soda, champagne, wine and waters! Why can't we do this in the States? If we ever get back to Rothenburg, this is the only place that I will try to stay. Hats off to the their staff!!

We were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. On arrival we were greeted by a young receptionist not interested in helping us with our luggage, our room was dull & lightless, we were then shown to another room, lugging our suitcases up another flight of stairs. Because we did not want a duvet on the bed because it would have been too hot we removed it to find a blood soiled linen which had not been attended too by the housemaids. We did want any fuss & spoke to a housemaid who replaced the linen. There was no apology from management. Was there any?.
Breakfast was unfriendly & boring. Never again. Spoilt a location which we were looking forward too. Very busy hotel with mega Japanese tourists.

We would stay here again. Stayed in a quad room with beautiful furnishings and adorable color scheme. Our Room was spacious, very tastefully furnished, and decorated. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Breakfast is simple. Staff was very helpful. Parking is a walk away thus inconvenient but didn't need car during our stay since location is central.

I stayed here with my 2 teenage sons in a triple room. The room was spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable. You can control the heating and the windows can be opened (great for those who find European rooms to be a little over-heated). The plate of peanuts (in their shells) and fresh mandarins in the room was a lovely touch and the breakfast is one of the better buffets with scrambled eggs, bacon, lovely marmalades and jams as well as the usual meats and cheeses. Terrific hotel, great price in a great location. Highly recommended.

This hotel is in a great central location. Our rooms were clean and the bathrooms recently renovated. Parking was a bit far from the hotel so pulling luggage across cobble stones was a little inconvenient. Not much variety of food at breakfast but still nice. Would stay here again.
