We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Spitweg! My spouse and our grown children stayed in July with Herr Hocher and his wife, and they treated us like family. When my daughter and her fiance were late in arriving from Berlin, he sensed my concern, and offered his cell phone for me to call them. How many people would do that in another country? I was able to leave my daughter a message, and they subsequently arrived, indicating they had missed a few trains. At Hotel Spitweg, we were centrally located to everything, but in a quiet area. We parked our car right next door in a small lot, and never needed it until we left. We had a wonderful breakfast, and the rooms are so authentic, and spacious. Herr Hocher always has a welcoming smile on his face, and he speaks very good English in addition to his German. He does like to know approximately what time you will arrive, so if you email that information ahead of time, you should not be "locked out" as one reviewer indicated. The hotel appears to be a very popular inn, so book early. A hint when going to breakfast, is to please sit down, and they will serve you part of your breakfast at the table, and the rest you get up to obtain in the middle of the room. Some guests seemed confused by that process, but it is a way they welcome you to breakfast by first bringing you coffee and tea, and breads. I only wish we could have stayed longer at Hotel Spitweg, and perhaps someday we will return.

This wonderful family hotel is loaded with charm and hospitality. Located within the old city walls, you can park your car behind the hotel and walk everywhere. Herr Hocher and staff are so gracious. Our room was large with painted furniture with a big modern bathroom. Breakfast was wonderful. I'd definitely stay there again and again.

Firstly let me say we enjoyed our one night's stay here. We loved the quirkyness of the place especially the enormous bathroom. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. Location close to the main square is ideal for a visit to Rothenburg. Private car park in back means you can just park on arrival and forget about it until departure. My criticisms would be
1) We arrived mid afternoon but couldn't get in! Place all locked up. After a phone call someone arrived to let us in so it might be wise to phone ahead.
2) Breakfast, whilst very substantial and of a high quality, was incredibly slow in arriving. I think all we guests arrived in the dining room at about the same time and they just didn't seem able to cope. Couple who sat down just after us were still waiting for their boiled eggs when we left!!
Despite the above, we liked the hotel and would return.

Spent two nights here. Herr Hocher treated us like family. He was very friendly and informative. The room was very nicely furnished, with all 3 beds being comfortable. Breakfast included a wonderful fruit plate. Parking is convenient right behind the hotel. The rooms can be a bit noisy from both inside and outside but it did not detract from the stay.

We stayed there for 2 delightful nights. Our host, John made gourmet breakfast and provided us with so much information on the area. He is just a pleasure and hopefully the next time we come he will be serving dinner.
