My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights as part of our Bavaria tour.

So wonderful. The building is around 500 years old so you are staying somewhere special, and it feels like it. It is located in a lovely quant street with it's own limited (And free) parking. It is within the town walls so is very convenient.

Don't expect a modern hotel, the floor boards creek, the stairs are narrow etc etc. Our room was large and well decorated with furniture and pics in keeping with the history.

The proprietor was wonderful. We were well greated, he had a very friendly and welcoming manner and a superb sense of humour.

The breakfast was great. We were given a plate of meat/cheese, there was a selection of bread and fruit and you also had the option of eggs.

I would love to return at some point and recommend this hotel to anyone touring the area.

Hotel Spitzweg was the perfect place to stay while in Rothenburg! Cozy & comfortable & quiet. The breakfast spread was amazing too. Charming breakfast area with the cuckoo clock chiming while we ate was great fun. Would highly recommend!!

Spent one night here while travelling along the Romantic Road. Centrally located, right in town. Free parking available behind the building. Room was large, twin beds are a bit small/short. Service was great and we loved breakfast with fresh cheeses, breads, eggs if we wanted them. Great value!

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. It's very well located and is very close to the main paltz. The hotel seems to be run by just a few people that do it all. They have limited parking and it was full so we parked on the street. We were on the second floor so the room was tight and no elevator

I have read some negative reviews, and there seems to be a common thread - an expectation of "service" that extends beyond “hospitality.” When traveling in Germany and staying at Bed and Breakfasts, you are treated as though a guest in someone's home. The host strives to make you feel comfortable and welcome. They offer a clean, comfortable room and breakfast. They may offer suggestions for dinner and answer questions about sights to see. They will offer an extra blanket or MIGHT even have an umbrella if you have forgotten one. But just as if you were a guest in a friend’s home, they may not be able to accommodate requests or services that you might typically find at an American hotel. Hotel Spitzweg is more like a B&B than an American hotel.

Two of the reviews I saw had to do with not having a kettle made available to them. In my travels in Germany, it was not common to have a kettle in the room at a B&B. There is nothing wrong with asking, but just as if staying at the home of a friend, one should not EXPECT that the request could be accommodated at a B&B. If you KNOW you will need a kettle in order to make formula for your child, you might purchase one upon arrival in Germany to carry throughout your trip. In the case of one of the reviewers, a kettle was ultimately provided for them.

Another negative reviewer was upset because she was not made an omelet. The breakfasts vary at B&Bs - some offer a basket of bread, a plate of meat and fruit and hot coffee. Some, like Hotel Spitzweg may also offer eggs, and ask how you want them….within their traditions. THAT is the charm of staying in B&Bs abroad. It allows travelers a peek into life in Germany.

Hotel Spitzweg hospitality and location are wonderful! It is located inside the walls of Rothenburg AND offers off-street parking; although I believe it is on a first come first served basis. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great - bread, meats, eggs, tea/coffee. The host speaks English and was interested in talking with us. He was also able to help us with directions to our next destination.

The building is very old and no elevator. People with knee or hip problems may have difficulty with the stairs.

We were there the week before Christmas. The traditional decorations were festive - a giant pyramid outside of the breakfast room! The Christmas Market was only a couple of blocks away. We enjoyed the walk as, along the way, we had an opportunity to look in on shops that were not just created for tourists.

In short, this is a traditional German B&B, in a great location, and with outstanding hospitality. I would highly recommend it.
