We love the Hotel Spitzweg! Herr Hocher is a very charming and gracious host. He made sure we had a wonderful time. He personally saw to it that we had a big and delicious breakfast waiting for us in the morning. Will definitely stay at his B&B again in our next visit.

The hotel is just charming. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful. There is free parking (secure) at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was amazing and absolutely delicious. There is no lift so if you have trouble with stairs make a note of this. It is perfectly situated just down from the town square. Rothenberg ob der Tauber has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and our stay at Hotel Spitzweg was really special.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor, it was very quiet.

Rothenburg is an amazing town and we had a wonderful time! I can't recommend it enough. As for Hotel Spitzweg, it is conveniently located, full of charm and character and the people who run/staff it are lovely.

We traveled throughout southern Germany and booked our hotels through booking.com. Unfortunately somehow all our hotels got booked for the same single date which we did not notice until we tried to check it at Hotel Spitzweg. Luckily, Walter (in American English, or Herr Klaus Hocher if you have greater command of German than we did) was completely understanding and generous to boot. I can't think of a way he could have been more helpful or more enjoyable as a host. All the rooms at Hotel Spitzweg were booked, but the family apartment was currently unoccupied and he offered to let us stay there for the night for the same price as our original booking. He was extremely kind and friendly. He walked us over, made recommendations about what to do with our time in town (all were wonderful recommendations by the way), and was as hospitable as a person can be. He was all smiles and warmth, kindness and humor. He was a pleasure to deal with and we can't recommend working with him enough! No idea what the actual hotel rooms are like, but the hotel's breakfast left nothing to be desired. Warm and cozy, tasty food aplenty and all the staff were pleasant and welcoming. There was even parking in the back for those in need!

Room Tip: The family apartment was clean and cozy and in a great location. Had two sleeping rooms, each with 2 single beds, a kitchen. The bathroom was immaculate and the heaters all worked well.

The hotel building is very old - probably sixteenth/seventeenth century - yet everything is availalbe for a very comfortable stay (assuming you don't want internet and business centres!). There is no restaurant as such, but the breakfast spread is stupendous. Our room was very cosy ( 2nd floor - a bit of a struggle up the stairs with cases!). The location was also good - about 5 minutes walk from the main square. Perhaps the best feature of all was the wonderful host, Herr Klaus Hocher, who made us immensely welcome and entertained us with fascinating reminiscences (and schnapp)!

Room Tip: There's no lift!

We spent 4 nights in room 11 in this amazing hotel. The room was large, clean and charming. The breakfast was delicious. Not only did we get the usual cheese and meats but the owner made us eggs, fruit and other special items. We used this hotel as a base to visit Nurnberg, Wurzburg and of course Rothenburg. The owner visited with us each morning at breakfast and seemed truly interested in our plans. It was a pleasure staying at the Spitzweg and I highly recommend this hotel.
