“Happy with Our Stay at Hotel Garni”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We booked a room here for one night here after researching Tripadvisor reviews. We were very happy with the location from the attractions in Rothenburg and we loved the personal touches of the hotel from our name on the chalkboard as an arriving guest to the dining room where we had breakfast. The room was very spacious and the only criticism we had was that it had an aroma of smoke although we didn't bring it to the attention of the staff. Beds in Germany have to be the most comfortable on Earth and the ones at Hotel Garni were no exception. We slept very soundly. The breakfast Walter prepares as mentioned in many reviews is exceptional and filling. I think for the value this hotel is a great find in a touristy city like Rothenburg but like the city worth the visit!

We were looking for a night stay in R. with my family (2 children) during a pretty busy time and we found this place, reviews sounded good, the price seemed too good to be true but we went for it, and we were pleased.

Kreuzerhof is more a large bed and breakfast type of accommodation than a hotel, as many other places you may find in Germany. Our bedroom was spacious, clean, comfortable, had only a small bathroom if you want to be picky. The place looks like it gets constant maintanance. The landlord is nice and helpful, they provide coffee and tea in the hall at any time. The location is good and quiet although in the center of the town. We did not park inside - it was full - but parked in the street without a problem.

Breakfast was surprisingly good, worth of a 4 star hotel in quality and variety.

No doubt I would go back, and recommend it.

My husband, our 2 adult children and I traveled to Germany this past month, and our second stop was Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It was a perfect place for us to stay! Although most European hotels can only fit 2 adults in a room, we were able to reserve a room in this hotel that had a bed in the entry area, another single bed in the main part of the room, and a double bed in the main part of the room. It was quite large and fit all four of us comfortably, even with our large luggage. The room suite was very pretty, and we were comfortable at night, too, even though we wanted to close the windows since we were on the first floor. We also enjoyed the hot tea/coffee/cookies that were always in the hall area for the guests. The breakfasts were amazing, too, with all sorts of meats, cheese, eggs, yogurt, cereal, breads, jams, etc.! And everyone was very helpful with our sight seeing plans and giving us recommendations on various restaurants for our dinner meals. The city is fairly small anyway, but the hotel was easily within comfortable walking distance for us of the train station, restaurants and even a local bike place where we decided to rent bikes and ride out into the countryside. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Rothenburg ob der Tauber in our future travels!

Our family of four chose to stay at Hotel Garni Kreuzerhof due to the reviews found on trip advisor. To be honest. it was our least favorite hotel in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The location of the hotel is perfect, just inside the city walls and close walking distance to all the sites. Our room was located in a building across from the breakfast room. We had a double bed made from two twin beds and a twin bed in the main room where a small bathroom was located and then in a small separate room was another twin next to the door. Our children did not like sleeping next to the door in a separate room so my husband ended up sleeping there. The bathroom was small with a small shower, toilet and sink big enough for only one person. The bathroom needed updating. We had two big bath towels but the other towels were very small and worn. The sheets were also very thin and worn looking. The breakfast room was across the parking lot in another building. There was a nice selection of breakfast food including warm scrambled eggs and sausage. Although Walter was cordial at check in and check out we didn't have that warm and friendly feeling that we had witnessed at our hotels throughout our stay in Europe. The hotel was a great value and in a great location but needed a little attention given to new linens, towels and its bathroom.

Our family of six stayed one night in the quad room with 2 roll-aways brought in. It was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was very extensive with much that my 4 children could find to eat. We used the onsite parking for 3 euros/night but parking outside the walls is not that far away.

This place is a hidden gem! It's a small guest house, and for the location and the quality of the breakfast, it's surprisingly inexpensive.

Parking is available on-site for 3 euros, which is well worth it, since finding parking in Rothenburg is tricky. We stayed in room 4, which has a lovely canopy bed (that was really comfortable!). The room was small but tastefully decorated, and very clean. The en suite bathroom was also small but also incredibly clean, and the bath towels were large -- a nice little luxury. Toiletries (other than hand soap) are not provided, but there was a hair dryer in the bathroom.

Walter, the host, was very friendly and helpful, and it's clear he invests a lot of time into his guest house and making sure his guests are happy. Breakfast is GREAT -- one of the best breakfasts we've encountered. There's a variety of cereals, yogurt and fruit, fresh scrambled eggs, sliced meats and cheeses, a variety of breads and rolls, jellies (including homemade quince jam), juices, and caviar-topped egg slices. And the coffee is amazing. The small dining room is beautifully decorated, and Walter checks in every now and then to make sure the guests have everything they need.

Side note: While breakfast is provided, the guest house does not offer lunch or dinner.

We had an excellent stay and highly recommend this guest house.

In terms of location, this guest house is within the old city walls, but on the outer edges of old Rothenburg, which means you aren't smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The walk to the markt platz (market place/town center) takes maybe 10 minutes. Maybe not even that long. This guest house is in a good location. The old part of Rothenburg isn't that big, so you can easily walk the entire thing.

We stayed for one night in this older style hotel. While the room was not luxurious it was comfortable, warm & great value. The location is excellent – in a quiet street within the city walls & only a short walk away from the main square.

Check-in was easy with the owner explaining everything. Parking was available onsite for 3 euros per night.

Our room was in the annex across the driveway from the main building. The rooms in this section were off a wide hallway in which were games, books, brochures & a jug & tea/coffee & biscuits.

The room had a tiled floor, a lounge, table, cane chair & wardrobe, large full-length mirror plus free WiFi. The bathroom was fairly small with a shower that had good water pressure although no soap holder. There was also a heated towel rail & nice quality towels.

Breakfast was good. We would recommend this hotel as a great place to stay in a lovely medieval town.
