We were looking forward to a nice, small inn with a lovely restaurant. The first clue that we would be disappointed was when the clerk who checked us in started to show us to our room without helping with the luggage. Then he finally asked if he could take one bag. My husband carried one and I carried two more. We carried the bags down the steps only to learn later that there was an elevator. Why we could not use that to get to the room will remain a mystery. Our room, along with many other rooms, was in the basement. We had to keep the curtains closed so that people could not look in to the room from the parking lot. The curtain in the bedroom was torn and not clean. The room was a suite. There was the bedroom, a sitting room, and across the hall there was a bathroom. All the furniture was older and looked it. The upholstered pieces were not clean. The wooden pieces were chipped. There were couches but no desk. The TV was an old unit with very few stations. You could barely see the TV from the bed but not at all from the couch in the bedroom. There was no TV in the sitting room. There was a large closet but it had all of four hangars.

The bathroom had a separate shower, but if you are not small you will not fit. They advertise high speed internet. Our experience was signal strength low or non- existent. We were constantly cut off in the middle of working and could only use Skype in the lobby. My husband thought the breakfast was good. I did not agree. As a matter of fact, because of my disappointment with the quality of the breakfast pastry, we did not have dinner in the restaurant.

The hotel was an easy walk from the station and the center of the old city. Despite this, we would not stay there again. We think they did not care if we returned because when we checked out no one asked if we were satisfied.

We stayed at this hotel in September and found the hotel to have the perfect location and an eclectic decor. We don't speak German but everyone was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel room was small however the rate we paid was very economical so we didn't complain, plus we were so tired from traveling we didn't care. Other rooms were larger but all have their own unique charm.. Bathroom was modern and roomy. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and you could also have eggs to order. It was excellent and better than most we have found in Europe. I would highly recommend this hotel to any traveler. Dinner at the restaurant was good but not special. We found that the reviews we read prior to our trip overrated the restaurant. Parking can be limited so make sure you tell them if you are driving and will need a space.

Room Tip: When you reserve your room, make sure you request a larger room. Noise level did not seem to be a f...

After a long drive from London, we arrived in need of a hotel to rest our very weary heads (spontaneity seemed like a good idea BEFORE the all night drive). We quickly booked at an internet cafe needing a place that was merely acceptable so imagine our surprise when we fell in love! The manger who checked us in was so welcoming and helpful. The room was gorgeous (bright and airy with a balcony), the parking was ample, and the inclusive, vegetarian breakfast was 100% the best I have ever had at a hotel. EVER. Looking back on our road trip I almost could have forgone everywhere else to have stayed here for a few more nights. Book here, you won't regret it.

I travel about 30% of the year globally for business - and visit Rothenburg at least annually. The Mittermeier is my favorite hotel in the area. As noted in other reviews, the staff is '5 stars' when it comes to service. The food is spectacular. I understand that the owner caters for F1 teams and the Red Bull guy. If the food is good enough for a billionaire - I'm in! On the rooms ... some are challenged, rustic might be generous. But, the towels and sheets are fresh and of good quality, the rooms and bathrooms are immaculate. The buffet breakfast compares favorably with city-centre international hotels ... and the freindly service just can't be beat. This team will help you with anything you need - period.

Yes, Rothenburg is touristy, but what a lovely walled-city, locked in time. Mittermeier Hotel is a superb base from which to see the wonders of Rothenburg (one of the main gates is an approximately 3 minute walk - the main plaza is is about 7 minutes walk). Our room had four large windows on two sides, overlooking a roof and gardens. It had an open-concept bathroom (loo was in a separate closet as in Japan) which may initially sound odd, but really worked well due to the design, layout and massive size of the space. Everything design-related had been given extensive thought. We had a walk-in shower with an oversize rain-head... a separate contemporary clawfoot tub, and two sinks. The bed was American-sized, and in an alcove with personal reading lamps on bedside tables. No clutter, all about design and function. All of this, plus a hearty German breakfast of smoked salmon scrambled eggs, mimosas, and delicious pastries for approximately 100 Euros per night. The "Blue Sow" restaurant at the Mittlemeier is widely reviewed as being the best restaurant within 20 or 30 klics... and rightfully so. We had the first of the season's chanterelles there, as one of many dishes presenting some cutting edge German cuisine, which utilizes local produce, meat, and poultry. Schnitzels are plentiful and tasty inside Rothenburg's walls... but for a special meal where you savor presentation, complexity of flavors, all based on a foundation of German tradition, the Blue Sow is the place...

Room Tip: Our room was in the older part of the inn, so had lots of character (typically pejorative- but not i...

I think the hotel is an afterthought and is treated as the "poor cousin" of the restaurants.

If you are in one of the not so aptly named junior suites, you will probably end up in an attic room. Low, steep- sloped ceilings. As mentioned by other reviewers, no A/C (not unusual for Germany, but challenging in an attic room on a hot summer day). Room needed attention to basic maintenance and repairs. Problems with both parking and wi-Fi . Good breakfast.

You are paying for the location, but for the money they are charging, you can do better.
