“Beautiful altar”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

The church itself is beautiful but it is the wooden carved altar that steals the show. There is a charge to get in to see the altar. They also offer an audio tour, which we did not purchase.

“Magnificent”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

This is a magnificent church and the wood carvings are unbelievable. We saved seeing this for a rainy day and spent the entire morning in the church, so check the weather report first.

“inspiring”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

The exterior renovations were complete when we visited in May2013. This is a relatively stark church by most European standards. The highlight of course is the Reimenschneider altarpiece from the 1500s. This wooden altarpiece is magnificent while the modern organ and pipes increase one's appreciation of the intricacy and detail of the other historical furnishings. A rather unique combination of old and new brings this large church into a human scale. Use the audio guide, buy something or simply make a donation to assist this church in their ongoing endeavors.

“Church is Nice - Wood Carving is Amazing”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

St. Jakobs church was interesting but clearly nothing special compared to some of the other more magnificent churches. What set it apart was the Altar carving by Riemenschneider. The detail carved into wood is simply phenomenal, even more sore when you consider this wonderful artwork was done in the the early 1500s

“What can you say about a wood carving from 1500?”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Lots of religious artifacts and a well defined lineage. Paid 2 euro to see the exceptional wood carving of Christ and other figures as well as the main altar. Well preserved and a close up look.
