We enjoyed our stay very much. The little town was so charming after the sun fade out and the travelers were gone. The hotel is just off the main square. Short walk to all the attractions in town. There are free parking at back of the hotel, but is kind of tricky to find because it is in an old town which has many restrictions and pedestrian zone. The hotel is in a historical building, which has no lift. Our room was on the 3rd floor and nicely decorated. It faced to the back yard and it was very quite. We had a good sleep. The breakfast was excellent. They provide ham, cheese, fruit, yogurt, bread, boiled or scrambled eggs. Highly recommended.

In September 2012, we visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber and stayed at the Hotel-Gasthol Goldener Greifen. We were 3 ladies and got a very nice room, but on a the second floor with difficult access. When the hotel staff saw that my sister was not very mobile, they - without us even asking them - changed our room to a more accessible one. Lovely, spacious room. We had delicious dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The hotel is perfectly located, a few steps from the Markplatz. I have yet to experience more sincere hospitality and friendliness; no wonder guests shared a table and enjoyed each others company so easily.

This charming 800 years old property has been proudly run by the same family for five generations. We stayed for three nights and ate in their wonderful garden restaurant twice. Breakfast is delicious and we enjoyed the option of freshly scrambled or boiled eggs as well as all the normal cereals, rolls, meats and cheese. Our bed was very comfortable and a great shower. English speaking owner is very friendly and helpful with hints and tips for sight seeing. This hotel is the perfect base for sight seeing and the lovely courtyard at the back a great place to relax over a drink after a busy day. Don't miss the Night Watchman tour, it was an absolute highlight for us.

Room Tip: There is no lift so try for a lower floor if you have a problem with steps.

Located on the main street near the market square in this old walled town. Somewhat difficult to find the car park located at the rear of the hotel, particularly with the sat nav trying to locate the front where there were roadworks blocking the way. Room was comfortable although the bathroom was dated with no shower. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the continental breakfast was very good
Went on the "Nightwatchman Tour" from the market square in the evening - very entertaining way to learn some history of the town.

Stayed here for 1 night with a friend.

Pros:
- Clean and tranquil room, homey decor
- Friendly, helpful and efficient staff
- EXCELLENT breakfast with made-to-order fried or scrambled eggs!!!!!!!
- Right at the corner of Rothenburg market place

Cons:
- Rooms may be a tad small for some travelers but it worked fine for me
- Limited wifi access and they do charge you a fee for that
- No elevators available

Safe and value-for-money choice in Rothenburg if you are looking for a place to spend a night or two.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in Room 20 of this lovely guesthouse. Rothenburg ob der Tauber was the first stop of our trip to Europe last December and Gasthof Griefen was the first guesthouse I emailed for reservation. The reply was very prompt, and the lady was very helpful (and incredibly patient) when I emailed her twice her to make changes to the dates of our stay.

We took a train from Frankfurt to Rothenburg, and then took a cab to the guesthouse because we didn't feel like walking. It was a mere 5 minute drive away. The guesthouse was expecting us, and checking-in was hassle free.

Room 20 was located on the 3rd (or 4th) level and thankfully we had help with the luggage. The room was huge! Granted, the bathroom was a little small, the bed was not exactly 5-star hotel quality and the wifi could only be accessed at the common area above the restaurant, but all in all, we really enjoyed our stay. Definitely value-for-money.

The Christmas Market at the town square was like just a stone's throw away. We wanted to go for the Night Watchman's Tour but it started raining/snowing so we decided to give it a miss. You most certainly shouldn't miss it if you are visiting Rothenburg in good weather.

My family stayed 2 nights in 4 rooms of this beautiful, ancient hotel. Everyone on staff was very helpful and welcoming. It is a little challenging to drive to the hotel - but everywhere within the wall is a challenge! Once parked, the city is easy to walk and the hotel is very close to the center. We stayed in June and there was no air conditioning, but the open windows kept the rooms quite comfortable. While the hotel is fairly quiet (no rowdiness or loud bars nearby) it does have old hard floors that carry sound, and the windows are open, so sound travels.

The rooms were very clean, and the bathroom had everything you would expect. Good hot water, decent towels. The room I stayed in with my husband and 2 young children was a suite that looked out over the hotel's small beer garden. There were beautiful flowers in all the window boxes. This hotel was a big part of making our visit to Rothenburg an amazing experience. Of course, the Night Watchman was another fun part of the experience!
