“Love the Family Suite!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We are a family of four (husband, wife, 5 year old daughter, and mother-in-law) who chose to stay in Rothenburg ob der Tauber for three nights during our trip to Austria and Germany. The town was to die for in character! Half timbered houses with flower boxes, amazing shopping, and walls you can walk on. We decided to stay at the Burghotel because of its reviews and because they had a room that suited us perfectly! The family suite was spotless, with three bedrooms (two with double beds, and one with a twin bed that was perfect for our daughter), and two bathrooms (one with two toilets and a tub, and one with a shower only). It was an excellent value for the money! There is one parking space right next to the entrance, and it is two flights up. This suite is separate from the main hotel with a very short walk down the street to the hotel for breakfast. The breakfast room is beautiful, with amazing views over the valley! Even prettier with the two days of uncharacteristic snow that we experienced! Eggs were made to order, and the waffles with sugar were delicious as well. Otto (hotel owner) was extremely helpful and friendly, and all of the staff spoke excellent English! We would love to return to this area in the future, and would definitely choose this hotel again!

We lived in their family apartment which is in a building just next to the hotel premises. The room is spacious and clean but a little bit old. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is located in the centre of rothenburg and is easy to drive to there. They have parking spaces just next to our premises. Rothenburg is a small town, so you can walk to any sight seeing points from this hotel with ease. The breakfast has only limited of choice though.

On our recent trip to Germany we were fortunate to spend two niights at the Burghotel in Rothenburg. We are extremely pleased that we made this choice. The hotel is literally built into the historic wall of the city. It is in a quiet section of the town near a small park and the city museum, very quiet in the evening.

We stayed in the top floor room which is a hike up but very spacious. We had a large sleeping room with seating, a room for dressing and clothes and a very large bathroom with both a nice shower and a whirlpool tub. The windows had magnificent views of the surrounding countryside with the slopes leading down to the Tauber River. It was a very nice room!

The breakfast room is quite nice with large windows with a similar view. The real treat however is a terrace off the breakfast room that is literally on top of the castle wall. We spent our late afternoons on said terrace with some fine local wine enjoying the sunsets. The food for breakfast was quite good with the normal German breakfast spread. They will make eggs to your specs.

The staff is extremely nice both in reception and in the breakfast area. They made reservations for us and answered our many questions cheerfully.

If you are driving there is a limited number of spaces for hotel guests, probably a few less spaces than rooms. GPS is a must as you navigate your way through the narrow old town streets to get to the hotel. Ita not easy but the beutiful hotel is the reward.

This place is charming. Rothenburg can be touristy but this place has authentic character. It will not be the cheapest in the old town but the value is clearly there..

Room Tip: We had the top floor - fantastic room but up several flights. In our opinion, worth it.

A small, elegant hotel with warm and gracious hospitality. We opted for a view room which made our stay the highlight of our vacation. The hotel is built against the old city wall and the scenery from our windows included the church, valley below and distance vista. Definitely recommend investing in a view room. The breakfast was lovely. Our hosts were exceptional, going out of their way to make our stay memorable.

Room Tip: Spend the money for a view room.

This hotel should be rated 5-stars all around: excellent staff, wonderful ambiance, large rooms. We stayed in room 25 with a great view, modern and updated bathroom, and comfortable bed. The staff was welcoming, chatty and helpful. You can park on the street or in a private garage for a reasonable fee. Great location to all of Rothenburg's sights, but far enough away from all the restaurants that you can sleep peacefully with the windows open. Highly recommend for your stay in Rothenburg, we will be staying here again when we return to Rothenburg in the future!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The family run hotel is incorporated into the western portion of the city wall on a quiet street, but just a 5 minute walk to the Marktplatz. Our room on the second floor (first floor in the European system) unfortunately did not have a view of the surrounding river valley, but was clean, well furnished, and had a large bathroom with a combo bathtub/shower. The breakfast room has a beautiful view and the buffet was among the best we experienced, with high quality meats, cheeses, and breads, and eggs cooked to order. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed when the staff steered us to a nearby hotel-restaurant for our first dinner (just average Bavarian fare), which we later found out was owned by the same family. Free parking on the street is limited, but the family owns a nearby garage with a reasonable overnight rate of 7.50 Euros.

We stayed here for two nights - it was a wonderful stay. The staff were VERY pleasant, rooms were clean and spacious, breakfast was one of the best we had while staying in Germany.

They had free wi-fi and a computer to use if you didn’t bring one. The location was great - off of a side street so you didn’t get any of the street noise.

We loved this hotel and if we go back to Rothenburg, we would stay here again.
