“Wonderful Hotel, Excellent Charm”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

This hotel was great, although there was confusion at check in about the information submitted by booking.com for our reservation. Stephen was very helpful in working with us to add a roll away to our room without a problem. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant was very good. The rooms we larger than normal, and though not air conditioned, the windows did open, and my parents' room had a large fan, which was perfect. It is located by one of the original city gates, just a 3 minute walk to the down town plaza - perfect location. Everything inside looked to have been recently renovated. There is no elevator here, so if you have trouble with stairs, be sure to ask for a lower level room. The hotel has the wonderful charm of an older hotel, with the creaking staircase and antique decor. It was a wonderful hotel - we would definitely stay here again!

Everything about this hotel is good. The staff are excellent, helpful and professional. The rooms are large and comfortable, though not all of them offer the traditional painted wooden furniture shown in some of the photos. Ours was a classic room, with pleasant but standard hotel room fittings. While the rooms don't have air conditioning, the windows do open and the hotel will provide a fan. Parking is available at 4 euros a night. When you arrive at the hotel a member of staff will help you unload and then take your car to the parking lot 150 metres away. You can access it yourself or they will collect it for you and bring it to the door when you want to leave. We were very impressed with the speed with which our room was serviced every day, with a band a cheerful housekeeping staff swinging into action every morning. Breakfast was good, and served in a very pleasant dining room. The location, right next to the Markstower in the old town and just metres away from the pedestrian only precinct, cannot be beaten. We stayed three nights and were able to drive in to Wurzburg and to Nordlingen for day trips and still be back in time to enjoy the peace of the town after the day trippers had departed.

Hotel was in a great location within the walled city. Our first experience with the hotel was when we called to say we were running late and would probably be arriving shortly before 10pm. The front desk girl was so pleasant and said she would wait for us. We had trouble entering the walled town but blindly followed the gps which lead us to the front door. We had a beautifully furnished room on the first floor for 2 nights. Unlike some other reviews, we had no problem accessing the wifi. The breakfast had much to offer with cheeses, meats, salads and cereal. The only low point was on our second day when we were asked if we would like scrambled, fried or boiled eggs. My husband asked if he could have a cheese omelet and the server replied yes. We were quite surprised when shortly thereafter a man appeared carrying a plate which he threw across the table at my husband. We assumed the "chef" was upset at having to make an omelet. That night after looking at a book describing the hotels under the Romantik name we discovered that our "chef" matched the picture of the owner. However, his wife was most helpful when we were trying to find an open pharmacy after 6pm. Hopefully, the owner was just having a bad day because we enjoyed our time in Rothenberg immensely.

Situated inside the old walls this hotel is in the middle of the town and in a fantastic location. The staff were friendly and helpful and carried our heavy bags up the three flights of stairs with no question. They also parked the car for us -this we were very happy about as we had just driven the wrong way down a one way street to get to the hotel-on the sat nav's instructions! We had dinner in the hotel and it was extremely good. Try the duck liver entree -so tasty!
We had a cheaper room which had sloping ceilings and was smaller apparently. We thought it was lovely and not that small at all. It also had a big entranceway where we could put our suitcases and a bathroom complete with bath. Tiles outdated but who cares? We would certainly stay here again.

The only problem was the WiFi didn't work in the rooms but worked in the lobby

A lovely town thankfully the hotel parks the car as very narrow streets

We ate in the hotel on two nights and had great food nice breakfast as well

The nightmarish tour is fun but you have to eat early as it leaves at 8 pm

Very nice Christmas shop in town

Attentive, helpful, friendly staff in an historic (medieval origins) hotel. We LOVED the atmosphere---from the creaky, wooden staircase, to the elegant dining room, enhanced by fresh roses. The location was perfect. The bathroom was huge and offered every amenity (be sure to request a shower if that is your preference). Parking was not close at hand, but a staff member parked our car (at some unknown place) and delivered it to us on check-out for 4 euros---very convenient! Free Wifi didn't work well, but it didn't matter. We loved the hotel SO much that we easily forgive its unreliable Wifi...

You will not be disappointed by the location, service or the rooms. The rooms, for European standards, is quite spacious. Our room had a beautiful canopy bed and a view of the courtyard. It is out of a old time fashionable movie. The hotel/rooms/lobby are very clean. We had breakfast included which came with lots of options, make it yourself waffle machine and made to order eggs. The staff goes out of their way to assist. They are all bilingual. We had a five course meal in the dining room with the entire family the night before leaving.

Room Tip: Do take advantage of the sightseeing trips in the area
