Our stay at this hotel was purely by chance. Turns out we were very lucky indeed. The owner greeted us at the registration desk at 11pm still in his chefs coat from preparing the evening meals. We secured the room and he then proceeded to hand carry all of our luggage up the stairs and down the hall(there was no elevator)
Then he took my car keys and parked the car! Next morning we came down for breakfast and he was already preparing eggs to order for the hotel guests. Bravo! This was truly full service. Breakfast was great We checked out of our room and they invited us to stir our luggage so that we could exPlore the town at our leisure. That's exactly what we did. But that is another story.
Would highly reccommend to anyone visiting Rothenburg to spend an evening in this hotel with roots dating back to the 12th century!

Rothenburg is a fantastic city and well worth the visit. The Markusturm hotel is well situated for visitors who want to be close to seeing everything in the town. An ancient building we accepted the poor water pressure we had in our bathroom and shower. Unfortunately, being in a room on the street we caught all the crowd noise throughout the night. I would not have expected Rothenburg to have remained that lively, but we had singing drunks outside our window (we were on the 2nd floor) on multiple occasions with the last visit around 5 am. If you stay in the hotel try and avoid having a street side room (there appear to be some facing an inner courtyard area), or at least get one in the upper floors to avoid the street noise.

The hotel is charming. Beautiful, welcoming, the friendliest and very supportive team of the hotel (I believe it's a family run), amazining location in the center of all the city attractions. Huge rooms. Almost even larger bathroom :) Very touching old staff in the hotel everywhere so you feel how people lived there. The hotel is very homey, in a historical building that once was a large family house but the facilities are very modern (like the bathroom equipment). Everything very comfortable, from arrival (they will get the keys and park your car, take care of your luggage etc) to departure (you can leave your luggage and car after check-out and keep walking another day before driving back home). The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is a small paradise in a city that you must see at least once in your life. You will remember it forever. Like a fairy-tale came true in front of you. Very interesting and attractive place we loved very much.

Visited the hotel year ago and was not disappointed this time around. Booked a family room and this had a lot of space. Furthermore a huge bathroom. Only thing not up to the normal high standards was the breakfast. Quite OK but the staff did not pay enough attention to missing food, plates etc on the buffet. Furthermore the selection was not as wide as it used to be.

I liked this hotel from the start when I saw how helpful and responsive they were with my initial booking inquiry. Their website captures their spirit--"why not call us directly? A personal call is always so much nicer". They sent us driving directions and parked our car for us when we got there. The hotel itself is a great old place right next to the old town inner wall. The place has character. They make there own beer! We had a family suite which was large though rather spartan. The place is a bit worn around the edges as some other reviewers have commented. The breakfast was excellent--eggs make to order, a waffle maker, and a great array of things to choose from. Overall we really enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again.
