“It's very popular and everyone knows it”

This town is one of the best-preserved in the whole of Germany - both tourists and the locals know this and the town certainly milks this reputation for all it's worth. Nevertheless, it's difficult not to like the town for what it offers. It's got a somewhat magical quality to it, with old buildings that look good enough to eat, lovely cobbled streets, centuries-old walls that surround most of the old town, and friendly locals. Add to the mix the novelty of eating schneeballen, the local specialty confectionery made of shortcrust pastry that comes in 20 different 'flavours' and you've got a dynamite mixture custom-made for all tourists that come looking for a unique experience.

“Rothenburg, Germany”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

The most amazing gingerbread house town you will ever come across, surrounded by a 12th century wall that you can actually walk up and along a fair way and see the view of the small town from atop and imagine being back in the day protecting the wall with arrows.

This was the first thing we did when we arrived in Europe in Summer and it set the trip up for success. Had lots of little lovely gift stores that we spent hours exploring, and tea and coffee houses.

I can't wait to go back in winter and see the town covered in snow, it would be so magical! On the absolute must see of the world - and not very touristy!

The whole town is like a fairy tale, amazing experience, 400-500 years of travelling back to the middle-ages time. Wonderful

“THE medieval town to visit in Germany”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

I not sure what more one can say that hasn't already been said. Wandering around the wonderful old town is a joy. The Christmas shops might be a bit too well represented but then this town reminds one of Christmas' past. A bucket list check.
