“absolutely fabulous”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Sadly, my daughter and I only had one day in this hotel that was remarkable. The lobby made us feel like we entered a very classy medieval castle. The rooms were very dated -- of which I was very very very glad -- please don't change a thing!!!! If someone is looking for updated stuff, they're in the wrong town! Remarkable pieces of art, furniture, enormous stairways, fabulous medieval doors... absolutely fantastic. They even had umbrellas to borrow (very nice detail). The restaurants.... oh my. Talk about luxury. Pricey food for me, but it was worth it. The breakfast even had champagne. It was surreal, although we live very comfortably in Canada. I realized how very little history we have at home. This was first class. Only complaint.... where is the horse and buggy on the photo? Doesn't exist. And it was very very difficult to know how to get to the hotel bar car. A map for drivers would be useful.

Room Tip: In the main building (they have another one across the road)

We loved our room and view. The service was excellent. I really enjoyed the charm of the area. The romantic drive is so worth it. There is no doubt that it is a tourist sight, but so what, I was a tourist. Really enjoyed our time there and the room rate was very reasonable. Really enjoyed walking around and taking in the whole experience. Though most of the town was rebuilt to look as if they were built in the Middle Ages, after the original historic buildings were demolished during WWII, you still felt like you were experiencing what it was like to live in Germany in the Middle Ages. I would highly recommend this Hotel. I would love to visit during the Christmas Holiday, the photos I saw during that season look like a beautiful fantasy Land!!

What is there not to LOVE about this gorgeous hotel, Eisenhut. We only had 1 night at this wonderful, central hotel, would loved to have stayed longer. The hotel is in a great spot. From the time you walk into this place there is just history everywhere. The reception staff were very welcoming and professional. We had room 344 (in the main building), looking out into the main street. Our room was huge. The bed, pillows mattress & doona was all great. Extra pillows in room if needed. A pale pink & marble bathroom had everything that you would want. I absolutely loved the decor of this hotel, from the rooms, reception, hall ways, dining & breakfast rooms all were lovely decorated. We had a great meal in the main dining room, the food was very good. Service, excellant. The breakfast room had everything and I mean everything that you could possibly want, even had a waffle maker so that you could make your own waffles (only hotel in Germany that I came across with this).Only negative about this hotel was that I didn't get to stay much much longer. If I was ever going to go back to Rothenburg, I would definitely stay at this beautiful hotel again.

Room Tip: You will LOVE everything about this hotel....

We wento to Rothenburg last weekend to see the sights. The Eisenhut hotel was one of the last we could get a reservation at. Our room was one of the less expensive ones, and was fine for 2 nights, but we could not get the "shower" part to work. They send someone up immediately to our room to fix it, but it needed a much bigger repair than they thought. So, no questions asked,
when we came back from site-seeing, they had a new room in the newer part of the hotel ready for us to switch to and a bottle of champagne. They were extremely appologetic and Antje Kral and her staff knocked themselves out make us comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, especially for it's location and restaurant. I would stay in the newer rooms though. Ms. Kral, thank you for a lovely time!

Room Tip: Better to stay on the newer side.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is certainly touristy, but it also has a wonderful atmosphere, It reminded me of something out of Terry Pratchett's novels. At the Hotel Eisenhut everything seems professional: the staff worked hard to make our stay a pleasant one. The restaurant served tasty authentic food, and in a dining room overlooked by an enormous painting recording the main event in the town's history, the 'Meistertrunk'. Our stay in Rothenburg was a memorable one, in a good way.

We have been fortunate in our travels and have never written a negative review for a hotel before so to give an accurate account it is a long one. We were on a touring holiday and had stayed at several delightful hotels. We arrived in the early evening and were very impressed with Rothenburg. We checked in and were told we were not in the hotel but across the road in an annexe. We entered a dim ancient building which did smell a little odd. We went to our room and were completely horrified at the musty smell and the general state of the room. It is an historic building but the carpet had at one time been cream and now is covered in stains. A green cushion was on a bench and when my husband put a bag onto it there was dust floating everywhere. The bed was fine and the bedding very clean. However, there was no way that we would be spending the night in this room. It was distinctly unpleasant. I crossed the road to speak to the very pleasant lady on the reception. I offered to pay extra to upgrade to another room but she said she was sorry none were available. I rang our son in the UK and asked him to help find us another room anywhere in the area and, failing that, we would sleep in the car. My husband went to ask for internet access so we might find ourselves a room. At this news the receptionist phoned her manager and a room was immediately found for us within the hotel which was clean and pleasant. It was an unpleasing start to out stay in Rothenburg an otherwise delightful town.

Dear Diane65,

thank you so much for writing this review.
I apologize that you were not satisfied with your room. Please let me explain, each room is unique and different in style and furniture. So it is sometimes difficult to find the right taste in the booked category. We are happy to read, that you felt more comfortable with the upgrade in another room.
Please be assured, that we have noticed the negatives notes and will do our best to improve ourselves. Thank you!

Best wishes from all members of staff

The Eisenhut hotel is a very nice place to stay in Rothenburg ODT area. It is perfectly located on what looks like the main street, not far from the central plaza of the town. It is a very traditional place with some original furnishing. My room was located on the second floor facing a side street wich was a bit noicy in the mornings. Also there is no Air Conditioned but I believe that is standard on Germany (the place is so cold they usally dont need it). In my case, the room felt a bit warm at night, so I left the windows opened and the cold of the night entered and felt better than AC. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Visit the restaurant (check for a separte review). Overall, very nice.

Room Tip: ASk for main building and facing the front of the building.

Dear Jomo1383,

thanks for your great review. Great that you had a nice stay with us.
Indeed, we have no AC, cause our hotel is a listed building (4 patrician buildings).
But we are offering our guests fans for the warmer days.

We look forward to welcoming you in our hotel again.

Best wishes from the Eisenhut-Team
