“A perfect experience!”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

This was our favorite hotel of the whole trip. We were met at the train station and driven directly to the hotel by their staff. That's not the norm! We were immediately offered cold drinks and a comfortable sofa while we were checked in. The room and location were wonderful and the morning breakfast, served outside...no buffet...real service, was varied and fresh cooked to order. Rothenburg is a terrific little village and well worth a couple of days. Do not miss the Night Watchman's Tour and take him up on his offer to spend the evening in "Hell" (his favorite pub). We also had dinner one night in their hotel and is was fantastic, although a bit expensive. We met two other couples and continued on well into the evening after the meal. Delightful! The only negative to our room was the lack of A/C. We were there in June but it was pretty warm. I imagine it could be downright uncomfortable in July or later. Despite this, I believe this is one of the top hotels I've ever stayed at in 4 European trips.

The staff at this small Rothenber hotel could not be more helpful or welcoming. It is the kind of place where everyone knows your name within a few hours of checkin. Personalized service from car park, to directions, to laundry could were handled cheerfully and with grace by the staff. Our air conditioned suite was, for four nights, a welcome respite from the touristy hubbub of Rothenberg. Small lights on the ceiling over our bed simulated the starry night outside. The food, for me, left a little to be desired. Breakfast in the garden was a treat, although pollen from flowering plants and trees might trouble some guests as well as the ever present insects. Dinner menu's options were quite limited. I wonder why more effort was not made to include fresh, local ingredients.

Room Tip: Request air conditioning. And perhaps a room away from the street. The town is crowded and busy du...

This is a great gem in Rothenburg. Situated a couple of minutes walk from the marketplace. The service is perfect. The staff makes you feel so welcome. The room is nicely decorated and the bathroom has alll amenities one would wish for. Breakfast was served in a beautiful garden in the most elegant way. A highly recommended place in Rothenburg.

From getting out of our car, to getting in to leave it's wonderful , the hotel , the room , the staff but most of all the owner. We have stopped here twice our trip last was brilliant so so we returned this year and it was even more special. We are already planning our third trip. The rooms are all different in style, but not in quality they are excellent , little touches like small chocolates left by the bed, the bathrooms are the same, even the mini bar is Inc in the room rate, if visiting rothenburg ob der tauber this is the hotel to book. The breakfast is wonderful but the owner of the hotel also own a pub and restaurant in Rothenburg and this you must try the food is out of this world in fact this year we stayed for 3 nights and only ate at the hotel and the restaurant pure class

Room Tip: We have stayed twice and both times faced the road rather than the garden but on both occasions had...

TA HOTEL REVIEW # 218

MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences.

LOCATION: Perfect. On a more quiet street and in the heart of the town.

BEST WAY TO GET THERE: We rented a car which took us a couple of hours from Frankfurt airport

TYPE OF ROOM: Standard. Butterfly room

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed was very comfortable and sheets and pillow were of excellent quality

LIGHTING: Great lighting in bedroom and bathroom

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Very basic especially with how nice the room looked. Just white square tiles. Shower had good water pressure but a small nozzle for a small stream of water.

TOILETRIES: High quality

CLEANLINESS: Hotel seems brand new and is very clean.

A/C: No AC in room, opening a window worked well.

STYLE OF ROOM: Great style although the standard room was a bit small.

COMMON AREA: Not much common area inside but well done. The garden outside is very charming. There was definitely a mosquito problem at night and bees during breakfast.

QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: We could hear people talking outside when our windows were open but the windows closed would block out most sound. The quieter rooms will be facing the garden.

FOOD: Breakfast was enjoyable with delicious breads and homemade jams. Only cooked items were sausage and eggs. We had dinner and the scallops were mediocre… soups were delicious.

TV/INTERNET: Didn’t use the TV but a bit small for the room. Internet is at no charge and fast.

SERVICE: Service was outstanding!

SUMMARY: This must be the best place in town to stay and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are a bit small... maybe worth an upgrade at this hotel

Not much more to add, other than Andreas was amazing - he was so attentive and helpful, made us feel like we were home. The grounds are beautiful, food excellent, rooms very nice -- note that only the Suites have A/C. One more note on Rothenburg -- it is wall-to-wall tourists in the summer, so do consider going off season a bit - you may enjoy the essence of the city a bit more.

Thanks so much to Andreas and Herrnschlosschen!

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband, 2 daughters and parents in July and we all absolutely fell in love with this hotel. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, I expected it to be very good, but it was even better - what a special place with amazing hosts and staff. We booked a suite for my family of 4 and my parents had a standard room. We were on the top floor in a spacious, double story suite that managed to combine history with absolute luxury and beautiful, modern taste. We wished we could have lived there! It was far better than hotels we have paid double for. Our visit to the Herrnschlosshen was the highlight of our visit to Europe.
