“Good Choice Within the Walls of Rothenburg”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

We arrived without reservations right at the opening. We had a group of 9 including a baby. The owner seated us without delay, accommodating the baby. We did not encounter any racism, as one of the previous reviewers indicated. We were a diverse group, including Germans, Americans and Mexicans. The food was great, focused on local cuisine with good meats, gravies and dumplings. The owner visited with us numerous times and served us personally. I would very much recommend this restaurant. The owner indicated that this may be his last season, due to high tariffs and taxes imposed by the city and state. It would be a shame.

The atmosphere is good with the restaurant being located in the cellar with old and curved ceilings. There are also a few outside tables right on the cobblestone side walk.

Wholesome great German food. We even got a crash course by the owner in how to prepare chantarel mushroom.

“Outstanding food, a must if you are in Rothenburg”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

We have stayed in this stunning town twice and on our last trip ate in the Burgerkeller. The very friendly and knowledgable owner talked us through his menu and we were just so pleased we ate there. Really delicious regional cuisine and excellent value. I had a trio of local but very different sausages served with a really nice sauerkraut and my wife had kaiser spaetzle. I would recommend booking as it's not a big place.

“Francoian Cuisine at it's Finest!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

If you are looking for some authentic Franconian cuisine then I highly recommend this restaurant. The owner is very friendly and quite accomidating. We arrived at the Burgerkeller exactly as they opened. Even though all of the tables were already reserved, he found us a table and took our order right away. The restaurant is recommended by Rick Steves and I can understand why. It is situated near the main square. After entering the building you will head down a small flight of stairs to an open but cozy keller. Paintings of the medieval era decorate the walls. Aside from the atmosphere, the food is rave worthy. I had 6 small Nuremburger sauages, traditional German noodles, and in-season, locally grown mushrooms in sauce. So very delicious!

“Delicious Franconian Cuisine”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

This is a charming little restaurant in the cellar of an old building. The food is freshly made (hand-picked and prepared by the owner each morning) and quite delicious. There was only one other couple in the restaurant, but nonetheless if you're in a rush or expecting prompt service you may need to adjust your expectations as the owner is the host, waiter and chef all in one. If you want an authentic Franconian/German meal come here, but just ensure you make reservations! We would definitely come back.
