“Quaint hotel, excellent location, good price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2012

In April 2012, I rented a car in Frankfurt with Sixt (the best deal then) and drove through Germany, Austria, Slovakia (Bratislava only) Slovenia and Croatia for 25 days. I stayed in 20 hotels and spent an average of 72 Can/US dollars per night, which is way cheaper than the prices in Canada and USA. Based on this experience, I will rate those 20 hotels.

SECOND REVIEW: Gasthof Zum Breiterie, Rothenburg

Beautiful, small family hotel, with a great restaurant (as I was told, I'm a vegan, so I starved in Germany), pretty room. The hotel is located inside the town walls, close to everything. The price was ok (65 EUROS/91.60 CAN), considering that Rothenburg is such a touristic town. Free internet, free parking across the hotel.

We have stayed here twice and are planning to come back and visit the Christmas Markets. Great price as it stays the same price through out the year. Hotel is within the city walls and walking distance from the Romantic Road Bus stop and also from the station. Hotel owner is Michael who when a child lived in Australia with his parents. Easy to everything you want to see and the rooms are good value with ensuite. We were there for the week-end they celebrated 700 years of their town, so accomodation is very very old compared to what you may find in other parts of the world - but surely that is part of the charm and why we go.

I wandered into the old town and whilst looking for somewhere to eat I noticed this quaint/quirky little hotel and decided to stay the night. It's managed by an Irish couple (he lived in Australia for a few years). Nice and cheap, with very friendly service and good traditional fare. Located just inside the wall in the old town, easy walk to everything. key access if you come back late. Car parking available. If you are looking for cheap 4 star accommodation this is not the place. Nothing fancy, no lift but I liked this place.

This is a real find. Parking across the road (something special for this wonderful town), and great location at the roder gate.
Lots of great food nearby ( the house restaurant was closed when we were there ), and excellent room and ensuite - both beautifully refurbished.

Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast good.

This is a funny little place. Very old and quaint but the staff very pleasant. The owner is an Australian guy I think, who is doing the place up over the years. Our room was at the back and up a steep stairway, and whilst very clean and tidy, was very basic, with a pretty archaic bathroom. Its obviously where the family of the owner lives, as all their paraphanalia ( bikes , household things etc) is out the back too.
All was fine until bedtime, when the family must have been above us. The old ceiling above us squeeked and groaned in an alarming way . Eventually the family settled down around 11pm and the noise eased up. It REALLY sounded like the roof was going to fall in on us though.
Breakfast was O.k and the owner kindly followed up our our missing shuttle pick up, which was good. I dont know if all the rooms were this noisy, perhaps just those below the family quarters which seemed to be in the attic or top floor..dont know if I'd stay again..

Room Tip: avoid the back top rooms...I think I was in room 26 up stairs...

We have just spent 2 nights at Gasthof Zum Breiterle and were a little disappointed after reading such good reviews. First impressions upon arrival were that this is a very quaint building. Yes the rooms are basic, but warm with very comfortable beds, however, I cannot remember staying in any hotel where there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room or the offer of a kettle, just a thermos flask of hot water. The decor inside the rooms is in desperate need of refreshing, we had a bathroom door frame hanging out, a picture falling off the wall and a very annoying shower head dripping permanently. On the plus side, breakfast is plentiful, the location is fantastic and the cost is not overly expensive. Some previous reviews have mentioned the owner and his sense of humour, from a personal point, I found his wit, bordering somewhere between sarcasm and offensive. Having someone comment that my wife didn't look so good at breakfast is just not funny, and if it had not been brushed over by our friends, there would have been a problem.
Overall, I would say that we expected more and after visiting Gasthof Zum Breiterle, it is worth it's 2* status, but no more. If we were staying for longer, I would have moved, but we decided to use the hotel as a place to wash, sleep and eat breakfast. I would recommend that you research more hotels before booking Gasthof Zum Breiterle.

This Hotel is amazing! Loveli structure in the old town, perfectli located. It was veri easi to reach bi car because it is just next a citi gate. The room was confortable and was cute, just as a fairi tale room even if the bathroom was too small and a bit old. Neverthless, we had a good warm shower and there were towels and soap too. The room was warm and the bed confortable too. The breakfast is downstair and it is inside a room which is a veri traditional old stile. It was quite essential but enough and the food was good as well. The people in the hotel are friendli and nice. U also get a car park for free. I would recommend to everibodi this hotel which was our fortune!loveli!!!
