“Hidden treasure on the edge of town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

Had enough of the shops, cafés and tourists in town then head across the river and follow the steps up the hill starting next to the church on Tirolerstrasse to walk to the top of Kalvarienberg. The sign at the start says a 35 minute walk but my wife and I and two young boys, 8 and 9, did it relatively easily in 25 minutes including stops at all the Stations of the Cross on the way. The stops were interesting and also helped to catch the breath. The view from the top on a clear July Sunday was spectacular in both directions. The three crosses and the tomb of Christ are tastefully done. Well worth the effort on a fine day if you have an hour or so to spare.

“A nice hike to the highest point in Fussen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Spend a little time to go to Kalvarienberg. I am so glad I followed the suggestion and went. You can approach Kalvarienberg via the steeper or the larger path, less steep approach across the street from the Lech falls. It is very doable even with regular Merrell shoes. Depending on your speed, it is a nice 30 minute hike up to the highest point in Fussen. If you are visiting the Lech falls, cross the street and head up the path. The sign points you to Kalvarienberg. You pass what I believe is their version of the stations of the cross on your way to the top. You are rewarded with incredible Alpine views at the top. One side is Fussen city. The other side is the Alpine lake and Neuschwanstein. It is especially beautiful and picturesque on a sunny day. There was a good crowd at the falls, but Kalvarienberg only had a handful of people in comparison.
