“Charm in the heart of town. Family owned and personal service.”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Absolutely the most charming hotel in town. Centrally located, walking distance to shopping and near the world famous castles of King Ludwig.
Ask if you can eat in the "local" bar/restaurant. iI is smaller than the main dining room, but stuffed so full of charm (and locals) you will be glad you did. Excellent dinner and service above par.
Rooms are each unique and the local area antiques the family has collected over the decades are in every room. The grandson showed us other rooms and each had it's own special history and charm. Plans for expansion next door and the outside terrace overlooking the town and
alps will just add to the charm.

Room Tip: Worth a few extra dollars.Doubt there is a bad room.

When we arrived in Fussen it was raining, can't be helped. We liked how the hotel was close to the station and easy to find. As we arrived early our room was not ready but the gentleman on reception offered to store our bags and advised that he would have our room ready by 12:00 noon, very much appreciated.
Went for a walk and had lunch and on return our room was ready.
The hotel has original decor and this gives it a really authentic feel. Our room was quite a good size with very clean amenities and a comfortable bed. All the staff we came in contact with were very amicable and helpful. Full marks also go to the ladies in the Breakfast Room, nice to receive a happy greeting first thing in the morning.
Talking of breakfast, there was quite a good selection and plenty to eat.
If we are ever in Fussen again, we would certainly stay at the Hirsch.

Easy to find and centrally located across the street from historic old town Fussen. Enjoy the pictures at their website: http://www.hotelfuessen.de/

Excellent and friendly staff, very clean throughout, good breakfast and dinner, free adjacent parking, great location, and reasonably priced. A superb value.

We were able to tour all three major castles in one day: Schloss Linderhof, Schloss Hohenschwangau, and of course world famous, Schloss Neuschwanstein. We even had time to enjoy hiking up above Schloss Neuschwanstein to take some spectacular pictures of the castle (make sure you at least go up to Mary's Bridge for the views, and then take the scenic walk down the Pollat Gorge to enjoy the waterfall and river), and then make it back in time to enjoy a wonderful dinner in Hotel Hirsch restaurant, which is rated #2 in Fussen by TripAdvisor.

This is a family-run hotel for many generations, and they take pride and great care in ownership and operations. Harold is one of the owners and he was most gracious and personable. I'm sure he will make you feel at home.

Room Tip: Harold was very kind to upgrade our room based on availability.

Fusen is the home of the castles of King Ludwig and this hotel is set ideally for you visit them very easily. A short stroll also takes you into the old part of the town which is full of excellent bars and restaurants. The hotel is perfect with fantastic staff - don't bother staying anywhere else - this is the place - in a word - perfect

We checked into this hotel for the night prior to our visit to Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. This hotel was absolutely fabulous, and we couldn't have been more pleased. The location within the city is absolutely perfect, and the service of the staff is unmatched. We will absolutely stay there again if we are ever in that area.

The only drawback was that the dinner service was a little slow, but it was a Friday night, and there was a large group there, so we were willing to be forgiving.

We traveled to Fussen to visit Schloss Hohenschwangau and Schloss Neuschwanstein. The lovely Hotel Hirsch and the city of Fussen was a pleasant bonus. The hotel is a short walk from the train station. We found all of the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and unique. We found ourself snapping numerous pictures of the interior. Our room was large, bright, and very comfortable. A lovely breakfast is included with the room package. By our second morning at the hotel the staff knew our names, had reserved a table for us in the morning, as well as remembered our drink preferences. Outstanding staff! The cities allstadt is located just across the street from the Hotel Hirsch. We spent many hours wandering through beautiful narrow streets lined with shops and restaurants. The only problem was that most of the shops close early every day - even on the weekend. It was also a short walk to the beautiful Lech River. The water is a beautiful shade of green and the Lech flows into Lake Forggensee. The Forggensee is a man-made lake which was built to prevent flooding. After the many restaurant meals the longer walk to Forggensee was great exercise on a beautiful fall afternoon. We found Fussen to be an enchanting Bavarian town and we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Hirsch.

We are doing a 17 night Northern Italy, Switzerland, Germany trip and have stayed in some wonderful hotels but this is the nicest room of the whole trip! Very large and beautifully decorated in German motif with a fabulous bathroom too. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. And the Wifi works great. We could not be happier with this hotel.

We came to Fussen for two nights to visit the Kings' castles. We ended up liking Fussen very much. We don't like touristy places and were a bit nervous that the castle visit would be ruined by all the tourists. We did it on a Friday, Oct 5, 2012 so a bit off season and we lucked out with gorgeous weather.

The hotel is a very easy walk to the train station where we caught the #73 bus at 8:30am for 4euro roundtrip, per person for the short trip to Hohenschwangau. From the states we had reserved ahead for the 10:25am tour but they were able to rebook us to earlier tours which was perfect. We did Hohenschwangau at 9:20am - excellent 35 minute tour. We took the shuttle bus up to Mary's bridge (1.80 euro pp). The view from Mary's bridge is great and most of the scaffolding is on the other side. We got to Neuschwanstein in plenty of time for the 11:25am tour. Walked back down afterward and caught 12:40p bus back to Fussen where we enjoyed the afternoon.

We have enjoyed some great meals and beers here in Fussen too! A wonderful time!

Room Tip: We liked room #212 very much!
