“Old but charming hotel.”
Reviewed July 21, 2012 via mobile

It's an old hotel (14XX?) so the stairs, walls and floors can't meet the standards of a concreet build-in-a-halfyear-hotel, but that's one of the charming things.

The room was in the main building and was modernised and clean, only in the bathroom I would break away the small bathtub and place a sliding door instead, so there is more usefull space.

Overall had a good meal and a pleasand stay.

Travelling the Romantic Road, we spent one night here. It is an old coaching inn, with a massive oak staircase, loads of atmosphere. The price was reasonable, and the room comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Did not have to check out till 11 am so had time to enjoy exploring Dinkelsbuhl, a medieval gem.

The town is well worth a visit. The hotel was fine, the breakfast was fantastic. We got quite hot in the upstairs bedroom so close to the ceiling though. The staff were very very friendly, however, there was a problem with Visa payments and that was a bit annoying- bring cash if you can and ask for a down stairs room.

Positive points about our stay in Goldene Rose: we spent just one night but it was already too much.

Once that you pass through the corridor leading to the restaurant kitchen, you take the stairs and you get to the hall/reception. So far so good except for the fact that our room opened directly to this hall and on the top of that the breakfast room was just by our room. Trying to keep positive we got into the room and things didn’t get better: very old furnished room, smelly, the platform light was at eye level so blinding, windows with no insulation at all so noise coming from the street and in the morning from the breakfast room. There were not just one minor detail to show that the owners care for their clients: the lowest quality of toilet paper, the hand soap was so diluted with water that firstly I thought that it was actually water, don’t expect to get any toilet commodity And the worst of all: the hall was also the smoking room !! So not only was our room full of smoke but we had to put up with all the noise coming from the smokers just in front of our door !! And believe me, when the fire escape diagram displayed inside the door is a very roughly sketch drawn by hand, the smoke is the last thing you want to have in your room.

conclusion, in spite of the breakfast, the hotel did not come up to our expectations at all, we highly recommend to avoid it

I had stayed here about 28 years prior on a college choir tour, and remembered it well. So we booked online and found it fairly easily. The same old craggy stairwell and cozy breakfast room. The food was good, room clean. Nice refrige with some snacks. The parking was a little difficult, but there happened to be a meeting there at the time. Close to stores, restaurants, bakery across the street. Next to church, so be prepared to hear churchbells early. The staff don't respond to email. We ate at the bar late at night and the food was great. The town of Dinkelsbuhl is so lovely and much less crowded than Rothenburg o.d. T.. I would stay here again.

We stayed in this wonderful hotel thinking we got such a good off-season value of 60 euro per night. Stayed two nights and noticed the booking services were charging more than 80 euros thus we thought we got a great value until we checked out and learned that the 60 euros was per person per night, or 240 euros for two nights. We've been to Europe many times and have never had this misunderstanding. Generally the Pensions, guest houses or B&B charge per person but never has a hotel. A wonderful time was spoiled by being grossly overcharged as a walkup rather than using a booking service.

All our rates were pointed out very clearly on the pricelist per person and night including 19% VAT and breakfastbuffet. The words "per person" are even in double large letters and also in english! These guests had choosen our superior room.
