Was able to go to the gold room In the Rathaus last week. It was redone for the 2000 year celebration a few years back. I remember it as a small child and seeing it again this year in it's newer condition was staggering. The gold leaf is amazing. The coffered ceilings in the ante-rooms are also stunning, although not guilded. This was a very inexpensive self guided tour. There is a lady who takes your money and then gives you a guide so you can read about it in the language of your choice. Simply amazing to see. Well worth the visit when in Augsburg.

The City Hall was rebuilt after being alterdd by Allied bombing in the war. The decorationsd and guilding are fantastic. A nice touch is the 'time line' for the visually impaired. Well worth a visit.

Having visited a fair few town halls throughout central Europe, Augsburg's Rathaus struck me as one of the most impressive. The location is breath taking and there's no finer example a Renaissance style building north of... Milan. The jewel in the crown of the building is the amazing and exquisite Golden Hall. Words fail me but it is well worth spending as much time as you can imbibing the intricate details as well as soaking up the glorious murals and the ceiling.

we went into the golden hall and were amazed by how beautiful it was. to our disappointment it isn't made of real gold (i guess) coz we could see the "gold" flake off at a lot of places. but it's a must see. everything done in details, must have taken such a long time and patience to be done.

Beautiful--one of the nicest i have seen anywhere in the world. Germany is packed with unique City Halls and this one is top shelf. From the Baroque architecture on the outside to the Golden Room on the interior. Looks as if heaven just floated down! This is the heart of the city and should go to the forefront of any planning that takes you to Augsburg. There is a small fee (family pass was 7 euros).
