It's a lovely old cathedral in the old part of town. Entrance is free & there is plenty to see in & around the building.

Thank Kenneth P

This huge stone cathedral is visible from a distance as you walk along maximilianstrasse. The cavernous interior is not as ostentious as many other European cathedrals yet still impressive.

This is a place of worship not a museum. People can take photos but I only saw one person doing this most people were praying.

In side is very peaceful and very cool even though outside was very warn in the sunshine.

There are many alters inside and a underground chamber beneath the main alter.

There is a pleasant garden court yard with water feature.

Well worth a visit.

We stumbled upon the cathedral by accident almost. My son had been wondering around town, saw it from the outside, and told me about it. He didn't know if people were allowed to enter - as it is still being used as a place of worship. We went back together the next day, and ventured in. It was quite magnificent. We spent a couple of hours inside, marveling at the remarkably intricate tall stained glass windows, lovely statues, tombstones, and altars.
We did take photos. They are allowed as long as there is no worship service going on. But the signage requested that photos taken inside be limited to personal use - so I'm not going to post any here. You'll just have to go see it for yourself!

The Dom is an Augsburg landmark. It though is distinctly German and therefore very different to the churches you will find in other areas of the world. Well worth the time to drop in. Entry is free.
