This was the most convenient hotel during our entire 10 day Europe trip. It's right off of Koenigsplatz, the main center of everything in Augsburg. And Koenigsplatz is just one Bahn stop away from Hauptbahnhof. We were right in the center of everything. The hotel itself is just a few buildings to the left of Salamander (the shoe store) and all the other shops, so we could just walk everywhere. We booked a three-bed room, and the beds were quite comfortable. There was an extra heater in the bathroom, which we were glad to use when the weather got really cold. The bathroom was a little snug, though, and the shower drained slowly. But the best part of the hotel was the breakfast, which was included in the cost of the room. It was BEAUTIFUL. We came down on Sunday morning, and the tables were decorated with beatiful yellow tablecloths, tea cups with pink roses on them, and a glass goblet in the middle. A lady in a Dirndl (the traditional Bavarian dress) lit a candle and placed it in the glass goblet once we were seated. The entire room was beautiful. Some of the larger tables had candelabras in the middle, with plants decoratively draped across them. There was also lovely classical music playing in the background. It was so much fun. The breakfast itself was a buffet of bread, meat, cheese, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc. The staff of the hotel also nicely let us stash our luggage behind their desk after we'd checked out (since our train didn't leave until the afternoon).

There were just a few negatives. Since we'd booked a three-bed room, we were on the top floor. There was an elevator, luckily, but it was tiny. Also, our room was on the fifth floor, and the elevator only went to the fourth floor, so we had to lug our bags up one more flight of stairs. It wasn't horrible, though. Also, they don't have free Wi-Fi in the rooms. You can sign up for T Mobile Hot Spot (which is fairly expensive), or you can use their free internet kiosk in the lobby. Also, the lamps in our room didn't work. The main overhead light worked (which was a beautiful light fixture), but our bed-side lamps wouldn't turn on. Haha, just as a side note--don't try to put your drinks on the ledge outside your window to get cold or they'll roll off to the street below.

Overall, I loved this hotel. I would definitely stay here again for its convenient location and amazing breakfast room.

my husband and i stayed at this hotel in September 2010 and really enjoyed it. it's a short walk to the train station (which was great while lugging bags and going back and forth to Munich), and close to all the old town sights. there were few restaurants open in the evening in the area, but we found enough to mix it up for the three nights we were there. our room was quite big for european standards and had an excellent mini-bar :)
the breakfast was also one of the best we found during our stay in Germany. i'd certainly stay here again.

Most people address the cleanliness of hotels they visit. Clean freaks can feel right at home here. The glass shower door was so clean you'd almost swear there wasn't one. And the cabin was a decent size, meaning you didn't bump your elbows when you soaped up. This may not be the case for the extremely heavy guest however! The sheets were crisp and of a good quality. The entrance looked as good as the web site photos. I mention this because often the photos are dark or long outdated and when you arrive everything is shabby or grubby but this wasn't the case. What you see on the web site is what you get.
The hotel is a hop skip and a jump away from the city centre and all it has to offer. It's an ancient city so it does offer some interesting sites. The 25% of the city bombed during the war has since been rebuilt in the old style so unless you are a history buff you wouldn't know. The golden room in the city hall is well worth a visit. Absurd when you think about it but quite magnificent and reconstructed since it was destroyed during the war.
There's an excellent city tour offered at the information centre on the main square. We took it as part of our hotel package deal. Our tour guide was fluent in English and did not hesitate to translate for me or clarify when I did not understand her German. It was a two hour tour, well organised and information packed. It moved at a brisk pace but sufficiently well paced that an elderly lady could (with effort) keep up.
There was no air conditioning, not common in European hotels but there was a fan. This is apparently a record-breaking hot summer in Europe. The hotel offers Internet for 5 euros an HOUR. Exhorbitant. Also there's underground parking 30 seconds walking distance from the hotel, 11 euros per day. There is a computer in the lobby but the screen saver admonishes you to only use it to check email and it was always in use while I was there. It's free 'money wise' but occupied 'time wise'.
The breakfast is outstanding, offering six types of jam, several seeded rolls, the standby white Kaiser roll and for the non health conscious, white sliced bread. Also available were hard and soft boiled eggs (to perfection, I might add), an array of cheeses and cold cuts, several types of fruit, fruit juice, a pot of coffee or several tea flavours including tisanes.
The breakfast room itself is bright cheery and welcoming. The tables are laid with clean table cloths. The personnel are friendly and helpful.
My only complaints are two. One, I asked for a double bed not two singles. I understand that two single beds pushed together often constitutes a double in Europe, all well and good if the bed base is designed to keep the mattresses in place however ours wasn't and there was always a gulf between the two beds making cuddling etc. uncomfortable. 2nd complaint, we were to have a 'romantic gourmet meal' which was cancelled for a meal at their second affiliated restaurant. The meal was substantial Bavarian fare, tons of meat (sausage like, plus thick slice of pork?), sauerkraut, dumpling and brown sauce served in a huge empty room (the football revellers were all revelled out) where we sat between two gigantic television screens while the world cup played itself out. The German team had won hours before.
The desert was massive. A reasonable meal as winter fare but quite an undertaking in the heat. So much for gourmet.
All in all though, the hotel was a really decent place to stay and I'd go again if ever I needed to return to Augsburg.

This is my second stay at Hotel Ost (and second review, orig in 07) and my wife and I still like this place. The location is great and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a standard double room on the fourth floor and found it very clean. Like many hotels in Germany, the rooms are not big, but enough to get around. We liked the bed but found the room warm/hot without AC. Since it a city hotel there was some / a lot of street noise. Breakfast was good (German style cold cuts, granola cereal, soft boiled eggs and yummy rolls with jam). Location is great and parking at the public garage was fine. All in all a nice place to stay, but not in hot months.

Its a family owned hotel and that shows in the excellent attitude of their staff. Their belief in making guests happy is paramount. They had no rear double rooms so upgraded us to a suite without any urging. We;ve stayed at other Augsburg hotels and for location, friendliness and for wonderful frushtuck - go nowhere else.

I'm sorry to write off what was otherwise an OK hotel -- but the matresses in the room were awful, and are not fit to be slept on. Either they are old, or cheap, or both, but neither my self nor my wife had a good night's sleep due in the most part to the dreadful matresses. Can't give it any more than two-stars: why else does one need a hotel room other than to sleep (well)?

Otherwise the hotel was OK, but nothing special (a rather autocratic receptionist, perhaps he was too young to understand the subtleties of the German language).

Overall I would say this was a good hotel. It is in a central location close to the train.

The rooms were small but clean.

The breakfast was good but it was a congested area on Sunday morning. Locals also eat there so you have to make a reservation for your table.

We made a reservation for 10 am. We had to leave the hotel by 11 am. When we went at 9:50 to wait for our table we were told it wasn't ready yet which was fine...we were early. At 10 they came and told us that they were too full for us. Excuse me!? We paid for a room with breakfast and made a reservation? They said we could wait in the lobby and they would bring us coffee. We told them there was no way. We wanted breakfast and had to leave at 11. They said okay and took us into a table (not sure why it wasn't our table to begin with?) They said how long will you need it? Our reply....Long enough to eat breakfast! Long story short they apologized afterwards and we had a good if crowded breakfast.

The street noise is quite loud even with the windows shut. If you are a light sleeper this is probably not the place for you.

The elevator doesn't go to the 5th floor. You take the elevator to the 4th and walk up a set of stairs. If you have problems with stairs you should make sure you are not on that floor.

Parking is next door in a parking garage that charged 11,50 Euros.

I would recommed if noise is not a problem and you want a central location.
