IntercityHotel Augsburg
Ranked #16 of 31 Hotels in Augsburg
Reviewed May 28, 2011

Overall I would recommend this hotel to any traveler: business or tourist. My review of the various aspects of this hotel are:

Location: Excellent. It is right ON the hauptbanhopf, the central railway, bus and tram station in Augsburg and 1 tram stop / 5 min walk from the other main tram stop: Konigsplatz. The Augsburg railway station has regular trains to Fussen (to see Neuschwanstein castle) and Munich, and since it is about 45 seconds away, you can easily take a 6:05 am train.
Getting to the old town or other sights around Augsburg is also easy from this location -- you have trams or it is about 15 min to the Ratusz/Rathaus/Town square and maybe 20 to the old (10th century Cathedral).
Also important is that on Sunday all the shops in Augburg are closed -- even supermarkets, so the only place you can get some food or water is at the station or in the neighbouring McDonald's / Burger King.

Hotel rooms: The hotel rooms are compact but nice.

Internet: This is my own BIG grouse -- the internet is not free and the prices are extremely high -- 10 euros for 2 hours.

Bed: The beds were rather hard and the pillows too soft. I guess you could ask for a change, but I didn't, so I have no idea if they would change this for you. The length of the bed is good for a 6' / 183 cm+ person.

View from the rooms: don't expect a good view -- this overlooks busy streets and the railway station so can be quite noisy on weekdays from 6 am to 10 pm unless you close the windows (then the noise is shut out more or less)

Air-conditioning/Insulation: The hotel has no air conditioning but keeps a table fan in the closet in case you need it. The insulating windows are pretty good and it has a radiator so I assume it is warm in winter.

Shower/bathroom: This is quite clean and convenient -- no bath-tub of course, but the shower is powerful and good. They provide a shampoo/face/body gel but no soap, so if you want one, you've got to bring it along with your toothpaste! On a side note -- those used to soft, velvet toiletpaper, bring your own or buy it.
The towels are good and replaced often enough.

Furniture: the room had two chairs, a small table and a writing table -- sufficient for my needs.

Television: The room has a telly that plays mostly German channels or German dubbed films (you're in Germany after all!), CNN, TV5 (French) and CCTV (Chinese documentaries with English subtitles). Good enough for a couple of minutes before bed, but if you are an avid TV viewer, I guess this could be a problem.

Breakfast: this was my second grouse! The breakfast is a buffet but the offering is pretty poor and it costs 14 euros. I cancelled it after the first day as I didn't believe it worth the price and you can get much better choices either at the station or at Konigsplatz.
Also, on weekends, the breakfast buffet opens at 7 am, so you can lose time in case you want to catch a train (on the weekend I ate at the McDonald's there for breakfast).

Transport around the town: One of the Major PLUS points -- with your stay you get a free travel pass for using buses, trams etc. around the city of Augsburg. Very good.

Value for money: Well, this was a company trip, but the prices seemed reasonable enough to me.

Augsburg town sights: worth seeing -- the cathedral and the St. Ulrich and Afra Cathedral are worth seeing as is the Town hall. Also, the Warta river is quite beautiful and the old town has a number of picturesque sights. This is also the start of the Romantische Srabe (the Romantic road that leads right up to the Neuschwanstein castle).

Food: I'm no gourmet so can't really give any advice beyond saying that the Nordsee restaurant/take-away on BAnhopfstrabe (3 min from the hotel) was very good -- lots of fish choices which I like!

Nightlife: I only went once to the pubs here and they had some local band of two young kids improvising -- it was very nice. I can't really rate nightlife much, so perhaps another review could help you better.

Fitness/Exercise: The hotel has nothing on it's own premises but has a deal with the next-door gym for its guests. This gym is very sparse and has next to no equipment. The treadmills are bad and the other equipment is equally bad, but then if you want to run, Augsburg in the morning is nice -- there are gardens near enough. The gym has a sauna which is ok.

All Intercity hotels in Germany share one thing in common - convenience for travelling. This one is right outside the busy station but the rooms are solid enough for you not to notice or be disturbed.

I found it a little unwelcoming and perhaps slightly overpriced, but it served a purpose and the rooms (and bed) although basic, were comfortable and tidy.

My husband and I stayed at the Intercity for 3 nights, while traveling throughout Europe. We took the train twice to Octoberfest which worked perfectly. The hotel is minutes from the train station, out the front doors and to the right. Great signage from inside the train station. The staff was very nice, and recommended a great Italian restaurant two blocks away "La Villa". The rooms were small according to American standards but very comfortable. The bed was very good. If you look on the website the room is just like it's shown, no suprises. One thing we noticed is in Europe may hotels don't have ice machines, which is the case at the Intercity. We didn't eat at the hotel, because we either at left early in the morning, or ate at one of the nearby bakery/restuarants. The charge for internet is over the top at 15 Euro per day, but we knew that before we booked. Right across the street is an internet cafe which charges $2 euro per hour. So if you need a quick fix you can get on for a limited amount of money. We loved Augsburg, you must take in the beauty of the city. I gave this a hotel a 4 only because they charge for the internet and have no ice machines. Otherwise everything was very good.

We ended up here on the last day of our Romantische Strasse Cycling Trip. Its quite hard to find in Augsburg if you are coming in on a bike, but just head for HauptBahnhof (Main Train Station) and you'll find it easily enough. You can park your bike in the radstation next store for about 1Euro a day.

This hotel has great links for buses and trains, and the free city 24 travel ticket is great for the trams (walk down to Konigsplatz, as most trams go through there). We were pleasantly surprised by Augsburg, and the staff in this hotel were very friendly and helpful, especially Anke.

Downsides? Charging for bottled water, the bathroom is a bit small and the shower door in Room 413 doesn't stop the water leaking.

Intercity Hotel Augsburg, in Bavaria, Germany, is a nice location when visiting Augsburg. It is conveniently located near central train station, shopping is within walking distance, there is an excellent Fitness Center near by which offers workout equipment and massage services. The staff is helpful and courteous, breakfast is superb, and the rooms are very clean. Public transportation is included in your room and one can travel in the city using it.

This hotel was well positioned near to the station and a short walk to the city centre. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were OK, small but very clean. The cost of a room was OK if you didn't pay for breakfast which is expensive, also we went down for breakfast, 45 minutes before breakfast finished the lady working there was already clearing the hot food away and unplugging equipment! Consequently we didn't feel very welcome or well fed.

We were attending a concert in Augsburg and booked the InterCity.
It was perfect for what we needed it for-just somewhere to lay our heads for the night.

The breakfast was as you would expect in a European hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The lobby was nice but at times the staff were a little rude I thought.

The hotel is good value for money but I probably wouldn't stay longer than one night again.
