I have just returned from a 4-night stay at this hotel. I booked before kootenaydrifter posted his review, but you can see other reviews on Booking.com. I asked for a quiet room, and amazingly I was
given room 301, the same as kootenaydrifter. I agree with most of what he says. The room does indeed have a terrace with view, but I can't agree as to its attractiveness - see photo. That room does have
attractive oak beams, although on inspection, they are more cosmetic than structural. And easy to bump your head on too. A few more of my comments........the hotel lift only goes up to the 2nd floor. Rooms on the third are accessed by a slightly curving flight of wooden stairs, which might be awkward for visitors with mobility issues. Also the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors are non-smoking. My only other, very slight criticisms are the beds are distinctly on the
"firm" side, and although the hotel looks to have been refurbished within the last year, the towels certainly aren't that new. The hotel
is in the pedestrian zone, but service, delivery, building vehicles all need access, as do taxis etc, so it's not quite as quiet as it might be. However, unless you must have 5 star luxury or a 4-poster bed with frills and lacy stuff (Hotel Orphee across the lane will give you that), then Am Pach is a great place to stay for a few nights to see this beautiful city. [----] - only in German at the moment. [----] for a free street map - this might only apply to European addresses.

We chose Regensburg for a two night stopover on our final week in Germany in order to explore a well preserved city within a day from Franfurt Airport. We chose the Am Pach Hotel as it didn't have a review on TA - yet showed up our hotel booking site! As it turned out, we are very glad we came to this city. We would suggest if you are arriving by train you take a short taxi ride unless you have a good street map. It is across the street from the Grand Hotel Orphee and a few minutes walk to the famous Dom St Peter's and very well situated for shopping and dining.
We exited the train station with our roller bags and just headed to the Altstad and then strolled around hoping to find the little Untere Bachgasse but finally gave up and asked a young girl for help. She said " just follow me, I will take you there" and so with her young son and both of their bicycles and us trailing behind, they took us right to the Hotel! What a great country this is! We received a friendly check in and rode a shiny elevator to the third floor and found a very nice room awaiting us. It was the attic or loft room with low ceiling beams and a walk out sitting area overlooking the rooftops and was just beautiful. You must ask for room #301! From this Hotel you can walk everywhere and you must see the Dom St Peter's, the Porta Praetoria and the Stone Bridge on the Danube. We felt that there was possibly less English spoken here than elsewhere but the people are laid back and seemed happy and we were well treated here and I would definitely use this Hotel again. I am reminded to say that the entire property appears to be completely refurbished, was very clean and quiet and the breakfast room was very charming. The lobby restaurant had a small menu but there are very good dining possibilities within 5 to 10 minutes walk.

  • Liked — very large attic room with walkout sitting area on rooftop
  • Disliked — nothing
