“Old and remarkable!”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

This is an awesome display of engineering and architecture. This is the oldest stone bridge in Germany. It was remarkable to see while it has be undergoing some repairs recently but is still with the visit.

“Old Stone Bridge Wonder!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

One can't help but marvel at the construction of this old stone bridge, built in the 12th century, that spans the Danube River. Great views of Regensburg from the bridge and the Danube River. Take your time as your stroll across the bridge; and you'll be taken back to another time and place in history!

“Survived the floods!”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

The centuries old stone bridge is a landmark not to be missed. It survived the floods in June 2013, though some repair works were underway when I visited.

“Spanning the Danube, spanning centuries.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Regensburg owes its prosperity to this very old stone bridge. For 800 years it has provided the only safe and permanent crossing of the Danube in the region. Merchants and all foot traffic have used the bridge and the flow on from this activity has prospered the town. Ironically vehicular traffic has weakened one end of the bridge and it is now closed for repair. take a look at the foundations and footings, shaped like boats they must have survived countless floods and flotsam attacks. The bridge provides a good view of the city and although plain and unadorned is also good for some photos.
The poor fellow represented by the statue in the middle was supposed to be the builder and some great folklore surrounds the building of the bridge. On a sunny day it is a great place to loiter. At the base of the bridge at one end you should visit the centuries old sausage kitchen and enjoy the sausage, beer and sauerkraut.
