“Highly recommended hotel in a quaint old German town”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

I am glad we had Hertz GPS to find this hotel- the entrance is situated on a pedestrian pathway in the middle of the old town. I could hardly belive the convoluted path that the GPS took us on the get there- I can't imagine doing it without this technology!! Dropping bags off was a little difficult as the pathway is used for buses and it was a busy pedestrain thoroughfare. There did not appear to be a porter here to help.
The hotel seems to have been renovated recently and it is clean, neat and light.
We had a room facing the pedestrian thoroughfare and yay -it had opening windows (don't you love fresh air in a hotel!!). Anyway this was a mistake as we were kept awake with late night drunk revellers shouting, yelling & screaming. Even on closing the window they were too obvious.
Breakfast was just average.
All in all a nice hotel for the price in a great historic tourist town- just ask for a room at the back!!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room!!!!

Really lovely hotel. Very clean, smart, modern and spacious. We stayed here during the Ironman weekend in July 2011. The staff were very attentive , helped extensively with additional luggage including bikes and were friendly and patient with our 4 children. It has a great location and Regensburg itself is beautiful. Great walks by the river, lovely restaurants and lots to do.
We had a suite for 6 which was perfect for a large family - we wish more hotels offered them. It was exceptionally clean, well appointed with beautiful, real orchids in all the windows. The beds were very comfortable with soft, expensive linen. The breakfast was good and staff were up very early on race morning preparing for the athletes. It did get busy during the morning but the staff coped well and there was a great choice of breakfasts including freshly cooked egs etc. This hotel was a real gem and a great place to stay for a few days.

Spouse and I stayed at Goliath Hotel in Regensburg for 5 nights. I will first point out that Regensburg is the best kept secret in German tourism. Even the customs guy in Munich wondered why we were going to Regensburg. Two minutes after we emerged from the train station we knew the answer. This is one of the most beautiful cities I have found in Europe. Bring extra data cards for the camera. Aside from its beauty and historic places, Regensburg’s best asset is its people. This is a city that one feels comfortable with the moment you arrive.

Now to the Goliath. In my view this is a five star hotel dressing as a four. The service was outstanding. We felt welcomed the instant we arrived and the felling just got better with every minute of our stay. Reception made you feel that you were being welcomed as a member of family. There was nothing they would not do to make our stay pleasant. I make particular mention of Christian, the bar manager (plus many other hats) who entertained us with answers to all our crazy questions and who is the BEST hotel bar manager ever. The only thing holding back the 5th star is the limitations of their building, but the service is 6 stars in my book. And the price is in the 3 star range. Well done to all at the Goliath. We will be back.

I've got simple needs...Friendly staff, clean rooms, airconditioning, a good breakfast, good free wifi, a toaster that works and barista coffee for breakfast.

The Goliath does all these and more. Great Location, funky environs, good size rooms (for Europe) and attentive staff...that remember your name and your breakfast requests.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go to the 4th floor rooftop Balcony and enjoy the views

Although I did not stay here long, the hotel was clean and serviceable. The breakfast was good and the location of the hotel is very good for walking in the town. Beware, if you are tall, of the rooms on the top floor as the sloping roof is quite dangerous if you don't look where you are going! I look forward to returning and hope that it will not be raining quite so hard next time!

Stayed two nights at the Goliath on recommendation from a friend who stayed there last year . Our original motivation was its air-conditioned rooms which turns out to be unnecessary as it rained during our stay. We had a "suite" which was two connected rooms on the 4th floor, one of which is a smaller single room which was perfect for my teen age daughter. The hotel staffs, from front desk to house keeping staffs to the old gentleman painting the windows outside our room were all very warm and friendly which sets it apart from some of the shops and restaurants we visited as the German people can come across as quite stern at times. Breakfast was excellent and our daughter had a blast trying to make her own waffle with the waffle toaster. On checkout, we asked for help as I accidentally reset the number lock on my luggage without making note of it. The lady (sorry I did not get her name) at the front desk patiently helped me struggled with the lock using various house tools for a good20 minutes till we finally cut the lock open. Just for that effort alone I would rate their service a 10 out of 10. The location is great, perhaps a bit too good as there was a lot of noise from drunken youngsters till 1am although it is no fault of the hotel at all.
