ACHAT Plaza Herzog am Dom
Ranked #14 of 48 Hotels in Regensburg
Certificate of Excellence

If you are in this delightful untouched medieval city, by all means stay at the ACHAT Plaza Herzog am Dom. The location is right across from the city's large cathedral and central to all areas of this very walkable destination. The rooms are comfortable and standard size for a German hotel. The service is great and generally fluent in English. There is a wonderful backyard Beer Garden that serves excellent food, a Beer Cellar, and an interior Lounge. The breakfast, typically included in the price, is fantastic. Furthermore, it is located in an extremely old building (from the 1200s I believe) but is totally modern. Great hotel in a great place to travel.

We stayed in this hotel overnight on our way through and it was lovely. Not only were the rooms clean and serviceable but they had everything you could need. They seemed immaculate and well thought out idesign. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the town. We slept very well and the breakfast was excellent. One tip though if you want wifi access and you are on the first floor then simply take the tokens for the free lobby access as the router reaches to the first floor with little problem.

Best hotel I've been in for a long time. Room was superb. Really spacious, fantastic bathroom with excellent shower. Well equipped with everything. Really comfy bed. Could not fault anything really. Breakfast was best I've had in a hotel for a long time. Staff were really helpful and very friendly. Very reasonably priced too. Located right in middle of Alt Stadt opposite Dom you could not get a better location either. Will return for sure.

We were in Regensburg for my birthday and to run the marathon, so a quiet room was important. It was perfect, at the end of the corridor on the top floor, with views over the biergarten and the Dom. The staff were knowledgable about local restaurants and helpful with transport. The breakfast buffet was lovely, great fresh breads, freshly squeezed orange and lovely bircher muesli. The layout of the room was a little odd, which meant there was not loads of room - not a great deal of storage space. However it was fine for our short stay. The toiletries were not restocked and the t.v channels did not all work, however they are only small grumbles. If we return to Regensburg we'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor

Staff very pleasant, generous breakfast. Location is fantastic. Regensburg is a city bicycle's paradise.Rent one and enjoy the city.

I would caution travelers esp. those used to basic comforts like airconditioning and internet access. The air-conditioning was not working, and the reception did not tell us that. When we asked the next day, they said they could do nothing about it - I wish they told us that at check in esp. when the day was plus 30 because I would have looked for a different hotel. We were on the second floor and could not open the windows due to insects and noise. You'd think they would discount the rooms. We did open the windows and it made for some noise and discomfort. The room was unbearably hot, we had sleepless nights (esp.when one of us was conferencing) as a result. The card keys worked badly. The reception never bothered to tell us that our airport shuttle called the night before to confirm our pick up time, so we waited for over an hour until I called the shuttle company. The shuttle company said they had left a message with the reception.

The internet - what a joke! This must be the cheapest lot in the world, the 'business package' is a brilliant joke and consists of handing you one 480 minute voucher despite staying for 3 nights. That's 8 hrs of use once you sign in. Then you keep having to go down to ask for voucher after voucher because of accessing it in the evening or the early morning (if you sign in at 11 pm, it's expired by 7 am in the morning).
Despite what they offer for TV channels, there are NO English channels, no CNN or BBC.

Warning to older and disabled travelers: the attempt of a modern bathroom with marble and glass gets you slippery floors because the shower glass is too short, and it's a bath tub (so be careful stepping out because the tiled floors will be wet) and the shampoo/body gel comes out of a dispenser, but difficult for arthritic peoples. If you like bars of soap, get your own. The positive bit is the lift which takes you to street level but it requires a room card (so make sure the card works because sometimes it doesn't)
The only other plus was the nespresso machine in the room.
The hotel is fine for a one night stay if you're on the way somewhere but don't for a 3 night stay. Make sure their air-conditioning works esp on a hot day.
We paid over a 100 euros for the room and it really is an 70- 80 euro sort of room place.

Our room was clean, relatively spacious and very comfortable. Floor to ceiling windows with a view across the street to the cathedral. Bathroom was eh, clean enough, but completely modern and up to date. Furnishings were a wood-look laminate and stylish. Breakfast was disappointing but it was an excuse to eat lightly and splurge on dinner. Internet was slow. Really slow. You had to pay for it up in the room, but it was free down in the cafe/bar. Wonderful location. I read somewhere that it's the nicest hotel in the historic area of Regensburg, and I do believe it. I'd stay there again.
