“Nice hotel, Shame about the noise”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2011

As in common with many other reviews, i found this to be a really nice hotel, clean, smart, nice large rooms, comfortable beds, rooms nicely furnished, and very friendly staff who spoke great english. Also right in the centre of the old town. So far so good.
But there is no A/c, so you need the window open. The cobbled roads and narrow streets look great during the day, but amplify the noise by night. The drunks going home kept me awake on and off until around 3 am, then the service vehicles from 4 till 5, then the construction traffic round the corner at 6 and 7.
I would consider going back, but would have to take earplugs !!

We recently stayed here for a night to begin a cycling trip from Passau to Vienna, Austria. Initially we were pleased with the Weisser Hase's old town location. However, that was the only good thing about the hotel.

The interior was stark and utilitarian. I can deal with that however not the absence of A/C in our room (it was the beginning of Sept. and still in the 80's). The only way to get fresh air was to sleep with our windows open which faced the busy street and also meant listening to loud revellers from the hotel's bar as well as the bar directly across the street. Due to Austria's new smoking rules which forbid smoking inside, smokers now congregate at the front of the establishment, and then proceed to smoke+drink+shout as was the case at the Weisser Hase. That went on til 4 am, and then at 7 am (no lie) Passau's public works dept. decided to jackhammer up the pedestrian zone. On a Sunday morning, no less! It was a huge relief to check out of the Weisser Hase.

We will absolutely not be returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not face the street.

My husband and I booked this hotel which was suggested by the organizational committee of the KM Conference 2011 taking place in Passau. We did not investigate much and just booked, for the rate of 99 euro/night with breakfast.
Well the hotel was in the end pretty nice, right in the amazing historical center of Passau. Pretty old building as everything else inside actually: tired lobby, tired rooms with no special issue though, average (but not exceptional) sleeping quality.
Nice points were the free internet access (with the code given by the front desk), a brand new LCD television in our room (which we did not use, but it was nice to see though) and the nice rabbit decor everywhere ("Hase" is the German word for "Rabbit"). Breakfast buffet was more than ok for my needs (I only had a tea and a couple of chocolate muffins), but our colleagues having scramble eggs and sausages were not that satisfied.
Parking is for a (reasonable) fee inside the hotel's garage but beware because lots are tiny so you must drive carefully!
So in the end yes, I had no special issues so I would probably go back, though my experience was not memorable.

This four-star hotel is located at the edge of the pedestrian zone in the heart of Passau, close to shopping streets, the Donau and its cruise ships and the attractions in the 'Altstadt'.
The hotel has comfortable rooms (of different sizes and layouts - this is an old building), a restaurant (not opened daily because of the many options in the vicinity), a small and not really attractive bar, a sauna, several meeting rooms with natural light and underground parking with a separate space for bicycles, which is very useful for all people who follow the 'Donauradweg'. In the reception, you'll find one computer with free internet.
The room was 'functional', not particularly charming but very clean. Bathrooms have been renovated recently, and have new floors and fixtures. Rooms feature a bathtub, a walk-in shower or a shower cubicle. There is a small flatscreen-tv and telephone. The minibar was empty. Beds were good, pillows quite flimsy (but that's personal of course). Unfortunately, the curtains did not close completely, and my sleep was disturbed by lights and the early sunrise.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant, which is pretty large (in two almost separate rooms). The buffet was not particularly extensive. The restaurant was not open for lunch/dinner during my stay, so I cannot say anything about the quallity of the food. And after all, the excellent restaurant Heilig Geist Stiftskeller is just five steps away.

Room Tip: try to get a room on higher floors or with a view of the courtyard (less noise from the street)

only because the rooms are not air conditioned which required us to leave the window open to get any air...well, the noise from the streets around the hotel made sleep impossible. Cars, beeping horns, singing at 4 AM - just too much.
Otherwise the hotel is quite nice, rooms and beds are comfortable. Breakfast options many. But if you want to sleep look for something in a quieter part of town or with AC.

With our bike trip along the Danube starting from Passau, we were booked in the Weisser Hase (white rabbit) hotel. The location in Passau is ideal. On the main square and walking distance from the railway station. The hotel itself is comfortable without being great. We did get free internet access and the breakfast was quite a spread.
This hotel is mainly used by bikers starting their trip towards Vienna.

Stayed there for 2 nights over weekend at a single room: Quite spacious with one single bed, TV flatscreen, spacious bathroom in 70's-look. The hotel is few minutes away from the main train station and the river Danube, just at the entry of the main shopping street but with quiet rooms/location. Breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing as 30mins. before service ends, the choice wasn't really there. An overall decent hotel for a short visit. Helpful and nice staff.
