“Fun, creative, and delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

This was, without doubt, the best meal we had during our two plus weeks in Germany. We elected to have lunch, a set menu, to avoid a late night prior to an early departure for Dresden. We were glad because this is a meal that needs to be eaten slowly, savored—and digested. The restaurant, which has two well-earned stars from Michelin, is small, charming, and a little tricky to find. Our meal began with a salad of exotic greens, sprouts, julienned apples, cucumbers wilted with dill, broad beans, and a pistachio cream. The combination harmonized beautifully. Next came a filet of wild char with rutabagas, ginger and elderberries—again, nicely harmonized. Lamb over pointed cabbage with bread cream and pickled mustard seeds was novel and delicious, as was the following "slow-berry" sorbet with caramelized millet seeds. All was followed by a toast rack filled with slabs of white chocolate with coarse pepper, milk chocolate with nuts, dark chocolate with sorrel marzipan, milk chocolate with grapes, milk chocolate with raspberries, and dark chocolate with candied nuts. Espresso was outstanding. There are suggested wine pairings from an impressive selection. Service was warm and attentive. The ambience is old world and elegant without being overblown. This is well worth a side trip. Be sure to make reservations! (essigbraetlein@web.de)

“Our best dining experience in Germany”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

This is an elegant and intimate restaurant with only about 7 tables, so we were a little apprehensive about bringing in our 3 little boys. However, this turned out to be a wonderful and memorable experience. The meals were beautifully presented and very imaginative, with unusual ingredients. The venison was perfect, but my favorite dish was the bean dish. It was full of surprises. All courses were very good and the restaurant is extremely generous with its complimentary extras. Of course, it's not cheap, but I found it very good value. For the quality of the overall dining experience, this restaurant is well priced. The service was also delightful.

“One of the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

This was one of the best restaunrants I've seen during our Germany-trip - it was the reason for me to get an account at tripadvisor. Not the cheepest restaurant in town, but definitely one of the best ones. Marvellous!
I'll come back whenever I have the chance to visit Nuremberg again!

“Experience of pure bliss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

to celebrate a birhtday we went for a meal at the Essigbrätlein. It is almost a family tradition to go there for special celebrations - and again we found that the quality had yet improved (which was hard to imgagine, since the performance has always been outstanding).
Every course left us with a feeling of pure bliss.
A huge "thank you" to the staff and the artist in the kitchen!

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2012

Sorry Andre, it was not more then a one star Restaurant aiming for more...700 Euros for a 100 Euro Meal..and you did not show your face...even the Pauly Saal has more ambition in Berlin..that is just to let you know I am not a country side pumpkin without any sense ...and the toilets..70's hell..it would be funny if it was not so sad...get a grip please....!
