Visiting in the dead of winter, most of the tourist attractions were under construction for remodeling until the Spring, as was the castle museum. However, just seeing the grounds and views of the city was well worth the hike, and they offered a reduced price for the medieval museum (optional) that offered a nice overview of the castle history, as well as some great armor and weaponry from the middle ages. Every hour or two, they also offer a fun demonstration of the well in the middle of the grounds that is well worth catching.

It is impressive in the summer time when one can look out over beautiful Nürnberg on a bright sunny day. However, my wife and I also thoroughly enjoyed going back again on a very cold, clowdy winter day. It is equally impressive and always beautiful.

Nuremberg is an old city, so expect to see many buildings in and near the city centre radiate the same old world charm and sporting similar brown and ochre facades. If you have never visited an European castle before, the Kaiserburg would be the highlight when exploring this quaint medieval city's old town.

However, visitors going between now till August 2013 should note that there is apparently some restoration or construction work going on, so castle's interior rooms are completely closed. The museum, however, is still open, while the castle grounds do offer some good photo taking spots.

The Kaiserburg's museum is a small, three-storey space that somehow manages to fit in most of the important and iconic artifacts throughout the castle's history. Expect to see suits of armour, swords and canons as part of the display.

The ticket booth where you purchase tickets to the museum also offer some interesting artifacts for sale. During my visit there, the lady to manned the counter spoke great English, was friendly and readily offered suggestions for other places to visit nearby the castle.

People looking for adventure might not find this castle very interesting, and those seeking Cinderella's abode will likely do better to visit Neuschwanstein instead. But if you are already in town and plan to do some sightseeing, the Kaiserburg Nuremberg is probably one of the most iconic sights in this city that is worth your time.

The Kaiserburg might sport the same brown and ochre facade as the buildings around it, but its imposing structure makes it the only building of its kind and one of the better highlights of this otherwise sleepy town.

I woul say that is number one in attractions of Nurnberg. Haven't visited the inside museum, but the castle sure is a must to see in Nurnberg!

I was bummed, the museum is open but they are renovating the castle (that is what they told me) until Spring. I think they said April or May.
The museum is great, definitely go see that if you are there.
Great view!
