It was a kind of strange feeling when arriving to the place: old and not pretty from outside and in a normal flats neighborhood. Parking was also strange and a little bit too much clumsy. But entering the place everything changed:lady of the reception very friendly, room very nice, and very close to the castle. Breakfast was incredibly good! A little bit overpriced, as everything in Nuremberg.
Summary: price/quality good, outside horrible and breakfast amazing.

Stayed here on a week long business trip to Herzogenaurach. It took a little finding, the SatNav got confused a bit. Has its own car park, but best to book a spot before arriving as it it quite small (it's not free, but it is cheap). Inside is a bit dated, but it added to its charm, I liked it, particularly the coat of arms! The location of the hotel is the biggest positive, it's just over the road from the walled city - no more than a couple of minutes walk and you're inside the city walls and enjoying the huge array of bars and eateries. Room was big, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a mix of continental and cooked fare - really quite good.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Burgschmiet when we travelled to Nuremberg in March 2014 to visit a friend. Yes the breakfast is first class but so was the room, the shower and the service at reception and throughout. The location of the hotel is ideal for visiting the old town. The journey from the airport was very easy using the U2 tube line to “Plarrar” and then the number 4 tram to Thon which stops at “Tiegartnertor” which is then a two minute walk from the hotel. The old town is bursting with restaurants, bars, coffee shop and lots of history. We took a tour of the beer cellars which was fascinating but be on time otherwise they leave without you! I recommend Nuremberg for a great weekend away and the hotel Burgschmiet is the perfect place to stay.

We spent three nights at the Burgschmiet and were overall very satisfied. They accepted our dog without a problem (a Belgian shepherd, so not a particularly small one). Staff at reception (both the girl who checked us in during the afternoon and the other one who was there in the morning) was very kind and helpful.

The location is great: the place is located just outside the Altstadt: a short (3 minutes or so) walk leads to the (picturesque) foot tunnel which enters the upper part of the inner city (which is also the most fascinating part of it indeed). It's quite easy to get there by car, and parking is provided for just € 5 per day (booking is required).

The room was very nice, welcoming, and also quite big, with plenty of space both for us and the dog. Bathroom was big as well and very clean. The room was also quite clean, but not really "immaculately clean" (and this is why I'm giving only 4-stars instead of 5-stars): the wooden shelf behind the bed always had a thin layer of dust, which probably shows it's not cleaned daily: this would hardly have been a problem, but one of us is allergic to dust so it created some problems.

And now to the breakfast, which was really awesome. The buffet was huge and comprehensive, with a lot of could choices ranging from smoked salmon to eggs to home-made pies and biscuits, yoghurt, ham, cheese and almost everything one can imagine for a breakfast. There was also some good warm selection including eggs, bratwurst and bacon. We never had lunch with such a breakfast. Upon booking we let the hotel know we needed a gluten-free breakfast for one of us and every morning we were provided packaged gluten-free bread and cereals: great service.

One thing that might not seem important but which I liked very much was the room key. Almost every hotel now has electronic keys, which are handy but a bit "impersonal". It was a very positive surprise to find a real key made of steel!

Pricing seems to be usually quite reasonable. It wasn't as such when we were there because of the IWA (a big trade fair which fills up almost all rooms in the city): we were there also to visit the show, but you'll really want to avoid that week-end at the beginning of March otherwise.

If you're planning to spend a romantic few days in Nuremburg (omg who would do that?) this is not the ideal hotel for you. However, if you're looking for a quick stop over hotel with a better than average breakfast, this going to fulfill all your needs. The staff are nice, the rooms are dated, but clean, and you're a short walk to some decent places to eat.
