For a free site with an optional museum, this is an excellent stop. Take the tram from the central train station and then walk. It's a walk because the nazis built big and showy. Try to time your visit when no fest is taking place or you won't get as good a view.

Make sure you take the English Tour offered by a very nice US Student. I totally forgot his name but the hotels and the visitor center have his info in their flyers. The tour was 9 Euro and totally worth it. Be prepared to do some walking around the lake. But this is one of those "must see" things in Nuernberg

I found walking the podiums and grounds of the Nazi Rallies (specifically the day after we went to the documentation center, so we understood so much better) was very powerful. The site hasn't been built for tourists, though there are some stands with history, pictures and history in German and English. This isn't a bad thing, as the site was relativity uncrowded because of it. I felt walking in the steps of history to be powerful and very worthwhile. If you have seen and understand the history of the site, then it's something you can't miss.

Interesting place to visit and worth a trip. However, be warned there is a lot of walking and it is not always the clearest signs. The museum is very good. I didn't know how unfinished the grounds were. Strange to think you are walking in the footsteps of Hitler. However, interesting visit

The Party Rally grounds can be reaced by taking the number 9 tram from Haupbahnhof to the Documentation Centre. An all-day ticket costs around €5.10. There are plenty of informative signs enroute, but to get the bigger picture one should do the Documentation Centre as well.

There are places where you can stop for refreshements, but the majority of these appear to be closed 'off-season'. Well-worth seeing if you're interested in history. Can be done in a couple of hours and walking by the lake is very pleasant - but wrap up warm if the wind is cold!

Note - the well-known main platform at the Zeppelinfield is now in a poor state of repair and is 'enter at your own risk'. Apparently it's going to take a huge amount of money to renovate, and whilst the authorities are obliged to do it, there seems to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm in the current financial climate ...

Still worth a visit though ...
