Because of the large dimension of this historical museum, it's impossibile to write something about all the collections. Here you find many Dürer's masterpieces, including the very well known portrait of Martin Luther, and pieces from the stone age until late 19th century. But I remained astounding in the Musical Instruments Hall: never seen before in all my life so many precious instruments of the past in so perfect conditions! Clavichords, virginals, harpsichords are amazing for their beauty and artistic richness. Don't lose it!

The museum is situated in a sprawling series of large buildings connected by a Louvre-like glass structure (except the toy museum, which you have to exit and walk to.) The museum is easily reached on foot from the city center. The halls are spacious and large. Bear in mind that this is the German National Museum - and all the displays are concerned with German culture. Paintings by German artists (some classic Dürer paintings), armaments from the Middle Ages. Nothing at all from the 20th century - not a mention of WW2, just German art and culture. There is a nice little place to eat and drink in the museum.

Dear BobFV1,
thank you for your kind comments! In fact, the collection area of our museum extends into the 20th century. Our permanent exhibition of the 20th century is on the 2nd floor and includes masterpieces of painting, expressive sculptures, classics of design history and focuses in particular on Expressionism and the Bauhaus.
We´re glad that you enjoyed our museum and we hope to see you again!
Best wishes

There are some interesting art pieces and artifacts here which could keep one occupied for a few hours. I appreciate the fact that there are both English and German languages on all the art pieces and artifacts. It’s one of the few places that I have been to in Nuremberg that have multiple language options. Really appreciate that.

Dear Gray_Obk,
thank you for your kind comments and your compliment for our bilingual object signage. For more detailed information I can recommend our comprehensive "Guide to the Collections", which is also available in English. Our audio guides are also in English. The new audio tour "600,000 Years in 60 Minutes" in seven languages has been available since October. So there is still a lot to discover - we hope to see you again!

Very interesting historical artifacts & displays. History of Germany & of the building that houses part of the collection. Great way to spend a morning or afternoon, especially if the weather is bad.

This museum has everything and there is so much to see! So many treasures in the labyrinthine corridors and rooms. You need a good half-day to explore. There are lockers and a cloakroom, so you can wander freely. Avoid the cafe on Sunday - it is so busy for pre-booked brunch and you can’t use most of the tables! I really loved this museum and would encourage everyone to visit!
