The queues are often very long here and although easy to find the lack of sign posts could deter some people. The website for the museum is very good and should be checked before a visit so one can see what is going on.

We attended the special exhibition of Albrecht Durer which was amazing especially as we got there early and avoided the queues.
Went back in the afternoon to see the main galleries but were pretty tired by then.

If your grasp of German is ok, go by all means to one of the free introductory tours at 10:30 or 15 hrs (see homepage). The tours are meant to give an overview over the collection, after them you may dive in deeper. This museums needs lots of time to cover, don't go there if you are in a rush.

Went to see 'Der frühe Dürer'. It was great to see these in person, although as always with these high profile, popular shows, hard to get close enough or spend any time with the detailed and small sketches. Although it was obviously pertinent to the theme of his early work, a few too many of the works were 'people who influenced Dürer' and the like.

There is a huge variety of items and artifacts to view here. There is a family ticket that will save money on entry. They have lockers near the entrance to put up bags for 1 Euro, and the money is returned when you retrieve your items. The oldest globe in the world is located here as well as many, many items of historical interest.
