“Depends on the room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

We spent 5 nights here during IWA Outdoor Fair. GREAT location near Ubahn and Lorenzekirche Platz. First given room 105, which had window opening on Josephplatz. Even on a Wed night, drunks hollering until 03:30....pounding on cars, etc. (German national sport, I guess.) Biggest issue was cigarette smoke coming under our door due to smoking area in the hallway next to our room. Next day we moved to 206 which was VAST improvement, no smoking, no noise, window opening into center area above restaurant. Breakfast ok, nothing special. Wireless works in restaurant and bar (choke, choke), but somewhat "iffy" in the rooms. Stefan (either owner or manager) is AWESOME (making dinner reservations, etc), although the evening desk staff was a little balky and didn't have much neighborhood knowledge. Would recommend if you can get away from the street and smoke. Be sure to ask for a room away from all smoking, not just a "non smoking" room.

Room Tip: Away from street, FAR away from any cigarette smoke. If you pick the "allergy free" room...

If you've been to Nuremberg during Toy Fair, you know that every hotel is over-charging for their rooms. Hotel Avenue is no different, but I didn't seem to mind as much here. For one, you can tell that the owners are engaged and really want to deliver a quality stay. The rooms are small and very typically European in design, but everything is spotless and very well maintained. They service an adequate breakfast in the mornings and have a small bar open in the evenings. The staff has always been very attentive and eager to assist with any questions. Probably the best part of this Hotel is it's location. It's just a block or two off the heart of the old city and an easy walk to many of the destinations you may need, including the U-Bahn station that is no more than a few hundred feet from the front door. Avoid rooms on lower floors over the street unless you like listening to drunken Germans roaming the streets at night. There seems to be a lot of night life in the area including a downstairs bar next door.

My husband & I stayed at the Hotel Avenue for one night prior to joining a Danube River cruise. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a room on the 5th floor, which had a large bath and a seating area with a small balcony. The room was very clean, comfortable, quiet, and the internet worked with no problem. The location was only a short walk to the Christmas Market, many restaurants, and the pedestrian shopping area. Breakfast was very good. In addition to the usual meats, cheeses, & brotchen, there were scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, and some other smoked and pickled fish. The taxi ride from the train station was about 2 kilometer and cost only 6 or 8 Euro. To walk would have been shorter, but we did not want to walk dragging luggage through the city. This is not a luxury hotel, but I prefer the small, boutique hotels that are tucked away to the big chains. I would not hesitate to return to the Hotel Avenue on another trip to Nuremberg.

In addition to the regular German continental fare, the spread included smoked salmon, mozzarella with tomato slices and organic jams such as gooseberry and prickly pear. The location was extremely convenient to visit the downtown shops or Christmas Markt and the room was clean and especially spacious for a European hotel room. All the staff were cordial, smiling and friendly. Despite being a small hotel, they also have desk staff 24x7. Definitely a place to stay again.

Upon check in, we were greeted by the employee and her little, very curious dog. Very welcoming and pleasant, she quickly got us on our way to the 5th floor rooms. Corridors were a little narrow and there were some hallways to nowhere (they could reconfigure for bigger rooms, I would think). They gave us actual keys which was fine but removing the key from the lock confounded us for a moment. The room itself was decent sized for Central Europe and immaculately clean (almost looked like brand new carpet). It was outfitted with all the basics and a lot of counter space and electrical plugs -- this was great for setting up my computer and other electronic gear. The bath was tight but fully functional. The show was also small but clean and had a properly closing glass door (no water mess like some bath showers). Breakfast was very good and had a wide variety.

The location was excellent -- you could walk to just about anywhere in the centrum without much effort or time.

Upon check out, the manager gave us a rather new atlas to keep free of charge -- very nice and it was used often to compare to GPS. We were impressed with the staff.

Overall, I think this is a worthy choice for a budget-minded traveler that insists upon uber-clean rooms. Personally, I might choose to pay a little more in the future for slightly nicer accommodation but would gladly stay again if I didn't find just the right place.

Stayed here when we visited the Christmas Market. The location could not have been better, just a few steps away from the pedestrian zone, lots of options for dining, shopping etc. The room was nice sized and very very clean.

all the staff were very pleasant and helpful, breakfast was good as well.

All in all, this is a good location for a visit to Nuremberg any time of year.

I was worried as I read some not so great reviews on Trip Avisor, but was pleasantly surprised by finding just the opposite. Even the photos the hotel shows of their rooms and restaurant space seem less than lovely, but again, it's just the opposite. You can't beat the location for the Christmas Market and exploring the Old Town. It's on a great street, with a Starbucks, train station, and expensive shops like Hermes, and it's budget friendly. The staff are all wonderful and ready to help in any way. We arrived and needed extra blankets, a hair dryer, even a room change, and they helped us right away. The breakfast was well diverse and filling, and the rooms and public areas were clean and comfortable. It's not a luxury hotel, but it was a nice place to stay. I would return there.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room over the street, but hear that one over the courtyard is quieter. Although we d...
