Private Tour: Nuremberg Day Trip with Train Transport from Munich
Ranked #2 of 182 things to do in Nuremberg

You could spend several days just walking around the inside of the walled city and still not see/hear of everything. We were fortunate to be there when hey were celebrating their Altstadt Fest. Plenty of vendors in the Hauptmarkt, sidewalk cafes for lunch/dinner, and endless explorations up and down the many side streets. The history of the churches, their destruction during WWII, the preservation of their treasures during the war and their ultimate rebuilding will amaze you.

Absolutely stunning and remarkable what Nürnberg has achieved after the destroying and damage 60 years ago. It is like walking through a museum with so many details of the midage and the old houses and history on every step you walk. MUST DO!

The old town of Nürnberg is a very nice piece of well kept (and rebuilt) German history. Nürnberg has once been the biggest city in Germany being well located at a crossing point of several longdistance trading ways (baltic to italy and bohemia to flanders) and brought up some rich people who wanted to show their wealth.

So within the walled area you will find a lot of very well decorated churches, old merchantmen houses and in general a very nice setting. If you only follow the main tourist crowds you get to see a lot but you can find very interesting spots and very nice and friendly places the moment you start to get "lost" a bit and just wander around (since it is walled you can hardly really lose your way).

A lot of shops of course you have the McDonald but also some very nice shops and restaurants which offer a good value and have something interesting on offer. All places are in easy walking distance from the main station but walking up to the fortress is a bit of s steep way up.

My advice would be to simply walk in and enjoy the town has been generous with information on the most impotant buildings and with maps. Just enjoy on a nice sunny day and if you are in Munich, Nürnberg surely is worth a day.

Very atmospheric especially in the area near the castle. Particularly enjoyed the Albrecht Durer House.

Considering 90% of the old town of Nuremburg was destroyed during WWII it is definitely worth a visit. Look for a picture that shows the devastation. Unfortunately we were there on a Sunday when most of the shops are closed but we did find one small bakery selling the famous Lebkuchen. It is well worth a try both the sugar and the chocolate covered were delicious.
