This place is famous for its german sausages... and they are fabulous. The service is good, the place is historically interesting, and the location is convenient.

One of the things my husband wanted to sample while in Germany was Nuremberg Bratwurst … little grilled sausages. Goldenes Posthorn ticked these off the list. It is a cosy little place that claims to be the oldest wine restaurant in Germany having been founded in 1498. He had the snags & I had schnitzel (since I’m not a big fan of sausages) … both were excellent, and the beer was good too.

We ducked into the Goldenes Posthorn during the rain after touring the Kaiserburg. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the food was typical Nürnberg fare. Prices are reasonable and the service was good too. The outdoor terrace would be an ideal place in the summer.

We went to Goldenes Posthorn at the suggestion of the young manager of our pleasant and somewhat funky hotel (Hotel Drei Raben). What a disappointment. Yes, we had the sausages and the roast pork shoulder—it took three days to get the smell aired out of our clothing. The pork was incredibly greasy: the sausages were over-cooked and shriveled: the bread (soft pretzels) was stale. (It is usual in most places in Germany to charge for whatever bread you eat—I really resented paying for it here.) Even the mustard was sub-par. Service was, at best, perfunctory. We ordered sauerkraut: potato salad was delivered. The waitress brought the correct order but made clear that it was an imposition on her to do so. There are much better restaurants in Nurnberg, e.g., see my review of Essig Bratlein.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon during Altstadt Fest - although busy, it was a quite relaxing place to sit outside and watch the world go by. The food was plentiful and good, as was the service. We had pork and the little bratwurst - all very good and the German potato salad was superb!
