Description: Schuhbecks Orlando Schuhbecks Orlando - this is Munich hospitality with a touch Mediterranean flair. Directly in Munich Platzl, Maximilianstrasse and Viktualienmarkt. The name of the house goes back to Orlando di Lasso, the famous composer of the Renaissance The Orlandohaus am Platzl is the focal point in the historic heart of Munich. In December 2007, Alfons Schuhbeck opened his restaurant "Schuhbecks Orlando", which is under monumental protection with baroque gold ceilings, crystal chandeliers and marble paneling. Enjoy delicious breakfast and enjoy Schuhbecks lunch recommendations or at your pleasure, choose à la carte. Alfons Schuhbeck: "We offer sunny, uncomplicated dishes with bavarian roots and southbound, mainly to Italy and of course we will not forget France. In addition the in-house Pâtisserie was established and guests are spoilt for choice between exquisite pastries variations such as mousse cake, filled Eclairs, various tarts and cakes.

We stopped for a pastry and coffee and it seemed like a very good place to return for dinner. The food quality was adequate, but the service was very slow, the young people acting as wait staff were nice enough, but they just didn't know what they were doing.
The maître d was careful to identify a stain on the floor to us, but he didn't care if anyone ever cleaned it up.

This solace is just down the road form the Hofbrau House. The area is very busy! The restaurant has seating out front and a well lit, quite opulent interior with chandeliers. Service was good and friendly. The food was okay.... 3 meat balls were good but really salty by the end. The beer is cold--- like everywhere. Try the dark wheat beer

This was an okay restaurant but there are many more to choose from so I probably won't be back.

My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch on a Wednesday. We had the option to sit outside on a nice day, but chose to sit inside in a more elegant setting. The ceilings at Schuhbeck's Orlando have elaborately-decorated arches with gold leaf ornamentation set off by large chandeliers. Large mirrors with gold decorations line the walls.

One of the nice things about Schuhbeck's Orlando is that they also have a menu in English, just ask for it. That kept my wife and I from wading into the mysteries of German-described food, yet still have a nice German-influenced meal.

My wife had a delicious salad dubbed "Morroco meets Munich", a mix of veal meatballs, couscous, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, sheep cheese with a saffron and garlic sauce that at first, we took to be yogurt. I had the roast beef special: thin-sliced, rare beef with savory roasted potatoes, a small tasty salad, and a dill-cucumber sauce. Quit nice. Expect to pay about 15€ for lunch.

Our waiter was efficient and attentive. The food presented beautifully. Definitively a recommended dining experience.

To top it off, and old gentleman passed on the way to the Toiletten and wished my wife "Guten Appetit", the German equivalent of the French "Bon Appetite!". Nice.

By the way, if you visit the Toiletten, leave a tip of 0.50€ or so for th female attendant. It's thrift thing to do.

Also, although the deserts look killer, you might save room for ice cream. There's a Schuhbeck's Eissalon next door to the Orlando offering a wonderful selection of flavors.

Add a trip to Schuhbeck's Eis for desert. And don't forget to visit their gourmet spice shop. Sensory heaven.

One of Munich's 'musts' if you want to see and to be seen. Good food and drinks.
