Description: The restaurant is located in the very heart of Germany´s secret capital - the Marienplatz of Munich. There is no way you will get more down-town, since the Ratskeller is located in the cellar of the new town hall - built in the late 19th century... There are few places where you get to see more history while enjoying some of Munich´s best traditional dishes... We certainly do offer vegan and vegetarian meals, too. Approx. 20% of our menu consists of meat-free food. We really hope to see you here soon!

“Absolutely super!”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

The Ratskeller is located in cellars under the Rathaus in Marienplatz, Munich. We visited at about 19.00hr on a weekday evening. It was very busy and we had made no reservation, choosing to be spontaneous in our choice of a central Munich restaurant. Nonetheless we waited for less than 2 minutes before a table for our group of 5 was found. The cellars are splendidly decorated in the Gothic style typical of the rest of the Rathaus. (Its worth looking around inside the Rathaus during the daytime - its a working neo-Gothic masterpiece!) We all chose different meals from the varied Bavarian menu. An English version of the menu is available. Everyone was delighted with their meal - hot, tasty and sufficient. We paid 82 Euro for 5 meals plus various drinks - beer mainly! There was no rush and we enjoyed a pleasant evening at the Ratkeller. Overall, staff were friendly and helpful and the meals were good value and quality. Excellent!

“Good Germany Food”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Ratskeller was recommended by my hotel concierge. It is a very big restaurant. I had a very good lunch here. Wonderful German salad and goulash with a nice Cote du Rhone. The service was good and moderately priced. I would definitely try again.

“A historic building worth visiting.”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

This is another of those things in Munich (like the Hofbrauhaus) that you should visit. It is a warren of rooms and chambers decked out differently (wine bar / sports bar / traditional resto). You can get lost trying to find one of the four exits, so stop and have a beer and a bite to eat. The food is OK and traditional German fayre.

“Excellent restaurant in a beautiful location”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Ratskeller was recommended to me by a local. It is a very large restaurant with so much character. Make sure you have your camera with you. The food is absolutely delicious and traditional.

If there is only one restaurant you will go to, make sure it is this one !

“Bayer feeling”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

Sometimes it is worth to try this kind of very touristy places. Accidentally bumped into Ratskeller we gave it a chance. Though not a paleo restaurant ;O), you can find some hochdeutsch food here, eg. try their bratwurst demo selection. The place has numerous halls inside with charming decoration and funny (later annoying bayer folk music). Waiters generally OK but do not wait too much smiles from them, they are always on the run. In the lavatory is cold in November and compared to the restaurant it is quite downscale in quality. Still the whole restaurant gives you a unique Munich feeling.
