Description: Enjoy the historic atmosphere of medieval Munich in one of the most beautiful locations in the historic city centre. In the lovingly restored vaults of the dukes mill dating back to 1573 we are offering upscale Bavarian cuisine and fine Franconian wines alongside famed and freshly brewed Ayinger draft beer from the families brewery. In the Pfistermuhle there are four vaults with more altogether 95 seats. Thirty additional seats are available in the beer garden in Summer.

A German with a sense if humour!
A very enjoyable birthday meal in Munich, our waiter or perhaps the owner? Was very attentive and seemed eager to prove that its a stereo type that Germans have no sense of humour. A couple less witty remarks would have been my preference, as on one occasion I didn't consider him amusing.
The food was great and the restaurant was very pleasant surroundings in which to enjoy it. I've only eaten in a couple of Michelin star restaurants previously and been disappointed with portion size, not so on this occasion everything was just right. Highly recommend this place, if your wallet can accommodate the prices on the menu..... You get what you pay for.

We were so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant that is situated in an old medieval mill not far from the Marienplatz. The restaurant has several cozy rooms that are traditionally (but very tastefully) decorated. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out ,the staff was incredible and we felt very welcomed. Service was flawless. The food was amazing with some seasonal specialties added to the menu (such as venison). The traditional Bavarian "Tafelspitz" (beef done 3 ways) was memorable. They also have a bakery attached the restaurant, so the baked goods served in the restaurant were as fresh and delicious as can be. Do not miss this restaurant when you are in Munich.

Pfistermuhle was the culinary highlight of our recent trip to Munich (although it was ultimately bested by Fischer in Nuremberg (see separate review)). We had never eaten here on prior visits to Munich, thinking that the restaurant was too cutesy and therefore perhaps too touristy, but we could not have been more wrong about that. It is a short stroll from the bustling Mariensplatz and around the corner from the iconic Hofbrauhaus but it is a world away in terms of the experience – Bavarian classics, each with a twist that made every course both familiar and new.

The restaurant is a series of intimate rooms that don’t look like they’ve changed in hundreds of years. We felt that we had stepped into a Durer painting at our cozy corner table, looking out into the warm wood paneled room and open kitchen (although the kitchen was quite a bit more modern than what one would have gotten in the 16th century).

We both began with the pumpkin soup, appropriate since that this was Thanksgiving dinner and there was no pumpkin pie on the menu. The roasted seeds and croutons gave the dish its twist, adding a dimension of smokiness and texture to the classic velvety soup. Next, my wife had a perfectly cooked duck breast and here it was the addition of ginger to the orange sauce that added depth of flavor and a surprise, while the spicy red cabbage and potato dumplings kept the dish true to the classics. I had medallions of deer calf saddle, which is much more tender than venison and very hard to find even in the finest European dining establishments. Accompanying one of the best game dishes I have ever eaten were all the comforts of regional winter cuisine – sweet potato puree, juniper sauce and Swabian noodles. We had an excellent bottle of dry Franken wine with our meal. Dessert was sheer genius – a “parfait” of frozen Christmas stollen, spiced orange and a sabayon of mulled wine. The only thing I can say about the dessert was that it tasted even better than it sounds!

Service was excellent and had the restaurant not taken pains in the menu to point out that our servers were trainees, we would never have known that the always smiling staff were not seasoned professionals.

This dinner would have been memorable on any night. But given that it was Thanksgiving, it was snowing and we were in the middle of Christmas Market, the experience transcended to the magical.

My partner and I visited Munich and wanted to try a variety of restaurants including traditional. This was perfect. The food & wine was excellent as was the service. The building was also lovely & dining was in a few different rooms. Easy walking distance to the Marienplatz & next to the Hofbrauhaus. Great atmosphere too!
