My friend and I made a reservation for the “Bavarian Evening” in the beautiful Festival Hall (on the upper floor). It was touristy and a bit cheesy, and the hall was packed with large groups of senior citizens, but we enjoyed the atmosphere, the dancers and the live band. Even with the reservation we had to wait half an hour to get a table because of all the tour groups. The line for the food was long, and the food itself was average, but since it was a buffet and we could eat as much as we wanted for 20 euros, we couldn’t really complain. The beer was good, especially the dunkel radler, a wonderful sweet beer. Though we enjoyed the experience for the most part, we recommend eating on the first floor instead of doing the Bavarian Evening. It’s crowded and noisier in the main area, but also seems like a lot more fun and lively if you can grab a table. We were wandering around looking for the Festival Hall, and saw tourists mixed with locals wearing traditional outfits & hats and enjoying a beer.

This is a great place to go in the winter or autumn months. In the summer, it's hot inside and too sweaty for my personal taste but they have an outdoor patio. It's pretty fun and if you have never been to a German beer hall, this one will make you feel you have experienced it. It's really fun and the beer is really good. The service is a bit slow, so order in advance if you want to have beer at all times. It's fun and filled with friendly drinkers and is good if you are a tourist and looking to mingle with other beer loving people. :)

Our second visit here with Munich based friends and we really enjoyed the place. To my mind it is a great mix of tourists( mainly German when we were there) and locals. It is a bit frenetic at times, and you may need to humour your waiter along, but going with German speakers made it less intimidating; but we had great beers and sausage, accompanied by an oompah band. What more could you ask for when on hols in Bavaria.

If you come in Munich you have to try the Hofbrauhaus, even if it is a bit of a turistic attraction it is a must see. Try some typical weissbier and weisswurst or the delicious schweinshaxe (pork ankle).
If you want to eat a Brezel (the weird shaped bread) DO NOT order to the ordinary waiter, but wait for the Brezel Girl, they have the best giant brezels in munich !
