We were so excited to go to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday.....but boy...if are looking for a "fine dining experience", you might want to keep looking. The decor was beautiful.....but the service was incredibly slow....the food mediocre....& the price was extremely high. We won't go back & would not recommend this restaurant ....there are many fine restaurants in Munich to choose from.

Great place. Been there 4 times, last in October 2012. Each time the food and wine was fantastic. Highly recommended. Yes like most places in Munich the pace of service is not rapid. It's the place for an evening not a quick bit.

This restaurant was highly recommended to us for our special evening in Munich. It was lovely & the menu looked promising. But it was a disappointment in service & level of presentation. We didn't mind that it was very...very.... Expensive, but combining the long lag in service between courses, with mediocre presentation made the "special" evening "un special". We won't go back.

I was there on two consecutive days - the first time was so good we immediately reserved a table for the next night on our way out.

The restaurant is indeed in an old pharmacy, with creatively used old pharmacy furniture and all. It is cozy and unpretentious, a perfect place for those who want to eat well but avoid the noise and the bling.

The awful waiter from some other reviews was nowhere to be found. The restaurant's owner/manager (?) is on the floor doing the primary honours, helped by two younger waiting staff. At times, they have a long list of errands to run, but this did not affect our experience negatively.

We have made two blunders of both arriving before official opening time and on another day arriving in a much smaller company than booked for. Neither was too much of a fuss for the staff. There is always some friendly banter and a bit of Italian-style humour, but for me this only adds to the experience. The staff take their guests very seriously.

And the food - the food is simply delicious. We opted for the daily set menus, and one cannot go wrong with those. While individual dishes are quite small, the whole multi-course dinner is enough to fill one up to the brim. There is a good degree of flexibility regarding the set menu, especially with larger groups. Try the Fregola for pasta!

PS. This is an expensive place, so if you're looking for great value, there are perhaps many better alternatives. But for a high-end dinner experience, this is the place.

I wondered whether to write this review or keep it to myself but that is not in my nature to do so.
Superlatives are oft used when a visit to a restaurant is rather special, trust me this one is very special and a pleasure to be enjoyed.
Atmosphere; once inside you are transported to Italy and the place is buzzing with diners; the staff are very, very good; multiligual, expert and patience itself when helping you to select from an extensive menu. They just make you feel you are in a special place which without doubt you are. There is an extensive wine selection with prices to suit all pockets, the red house wine was very good and not too pricey.
The meals are beautifully presented and whatever your choice be it pasta, salad, fish or meat there is an extensive choice. We chose the 'daily menu' it consisted of five courses all beautifully presented with the choice of fish or chicken as the main dish - the fish chosen was a crispy grilled Sea Bass fillet on a bed of spinach simply gorgeous.
I could go on and on about this place but it would get boring.
In summary if in Munich make the time to visit 'Vinaiolo' you will probably need a reservation.
