Description: PASSION-Without passion, Tantris would not exist. Taking inspiration from his travels, the passionate gourmet Fritz Eichbauer commissions the building of his dream restaurant in Munich more than forty years ago. Tantris marks the beginning of a new culinary movement in Germany. PERFECTION- The term “Tantris” is derived from the Indian Buddhist culture and symbolises the search for perfection. And a visit to Tantris should be the epitome of perfection: From the seventies-era architecture to the Michelin two-starred cuisine right through to the international selection of wines and the friendly, professional service. ENJOYMENT-Right from day one, the emphasis at Tantris has been on enjoyment. For more than 20 years, the “master of simplicity” Hans Haas has put his unique signature on the cuisine at Tantris: Prepared naturally and simply with the emphasis on flavour. MAGIC-It is the atmosphere that conjures up magical moments. Once avant-garde and today enjoying cult status.

My wife and I visited Tantris in mid September for dinner. The bright red interior is interesting, if not unique. Be aware that the restaurant will take your credit card information at the time or shortly after making the reservation - I believe the cancellation fee for no shows or cancellations after a certain time on the day is 100 euros per person. I did not mind that too much as this is a business after all although I do not recall being asked of such from other Michelin starred restaurants. The food and the wines were excellent - I wont go into detail here as other posts surely have. The one big negative was that a rather large fly was occasionally buzzed around our table as it seemed to be attracted to a plant by us. That was bad enough but then the fly went into a lampshade near our table and released a lot of dust from inside the lampshade. I wont fully fault the restaurant for the fly per se as it could have easily followed a customer in but a dusty lampshade is fully within the restaurant's control and very disappointing, certainly not what I would expect out of a Michelin starred restaurant. This put a damper on an otherwise delicious meal.

We have tried a lot of Michelin restaurant and this has to be one of the best we have had. Fit out looks awesome, service was fantastic and the food and plating were truly spectacular. Wanted to go again the next day but of course fully booked out. So book in advance.

For some reason I was expecting Chinese cuisine but it wasn't in the slightest Chinese... we were given a choice of 5 course or 8 course tasting menu and an option of wine pairing. We went for the 5 course and each course was delicious. The Sommelier was brilliant giving lots of back story to each of the accompanying wines and they did indeed match perfectly with each course. Service was professional, descriptions of each course delivered in English, amuse bouche and petits fours served at each end of the meal. One downside - it is a bit on the pricey side however it has 2 Michelin Stars and the food was faultless. The interior is also very good - a kind of funky 70's style with carpets on the walls and ceilings.

we pre booked this restaurant some time ahead of our 5 day trip to Munich. we had read mixed reviews and as strange as it sounds had quite low expectations. When we arived by taxi the outside of the building looks quite industrial, sort of like it was maybe trendy some years ago. when entering we received a very warm welcome and went to the bar. The restaurant itself is very big with high ceilings so don't be alarmed by pictures you see on the internet which makes the ceilings look low and oppressive. Its not! In fact even though its quite 70s retro it actually works really well. We wanted the full experience so opted for the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Without running through the whole menu i would say the fish dishes were stonger than the meat overall. every course was interesting possibly with the exception of what you might say was the cheese course where the €200 bottle of red was the absolute star.
in fact the real joy was the wine pairing which was unusual, interesting, provocative and took the food to a different level. All of the staff were superbly friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. in particular our head table waiter and the somelier. We were there 5 hours and it flew by. in pure food terms i have eaten better 2* meals (Petrus/Wareing, Chevre D'or etc) but as an overall experience it was right up there. If you want value for money it may not be for you as the prices are pretty steep at around €450 per head for what we chose. Worth every penny if you want to push the boat out.
