I recently stayed at my favorite hotel in Munchen, the BayerischerHof. Alothough this was my third stay at the lovely 5-star hotel, I did enjoy one of it's ammenities for the first time. Located on the first floor of this fine establishment, the Garden Restaurant already has an excellent reputation. Trust me when I say that I have dined in many fine restaurants in Deutschland, many of them in Munchen.
The atmosphere is very nice, both in and out. I would have likely chosen an outside table, which is surrounded by wonderful flowers, plants, and architecture. However, this was a cool evening in September, so I sat inside at a table for one, as my friends were still having fun at the Oktoberfest. The food was top-notch. A nice mix of wonderfully hand-prepared seafood dishes, served al-acarte, in just the right portion sizes. The meal was served by a very well-skilled team of four, with a few visits from the host for the evening to make certain things were going well. Each portion of the meal was served with a sincere smile, silverware removed and placed correctly, and done so in a timely manner. I chose a German Pinot Noir, medium body, from the Rhine region(2005) with my delicious meal. It was nearly perfect.
Although each part of the meal, which included baked fish, caviar, sushi, rice, white beans, and more was memorable, and the chef should be commened, it will be a distant second in my memory to the world class service. Without question this was the best service I have experienced in all of Europe the past ten years. The Garden Restaurant's award winning reputation is certainly well-deserved. I cannot say enough about the excellent service, and I will be back. The meal was unforgettable, and the two stages of delicious desserts left my tongue dancing. The rasberry torte and ice cream to die for. Total cost of the meal with taxes and tip was about 180 EUR for one person. Keep in mind, I chose to have three glasses of wine at 20 EUR a pop. Without exaggerating even a little, the meal was worth twice that much in my humble opinion. Bravo and kudos to the entire staff at the BayerischerHof and Garden Restaurant.
