Courtyard by Marriott Munich City Center
Ranked #93 of 390 Hotels in Munich

This is a pretty standard Marriott Courtyard. Its main plus is being about 1 1/2 blocks from the train station as well as close to the pedestrian streets of the city center. The neighborhood is somewhat sketchy, however, with numerous casinos and strip clubs.

For one night, it worked out well, especially as I used points. More upscale hotels nearer to the station are very expensive. I do not believe that I would use this hotel for a more extended stay. I also would not recommend it for a woman traveling alone. While it is safe enough, it is not a comfortable area.

We stayed during Oktoberfest. The location is fantastic. Close to the train and walking distance to Oktoberfest. The area however, look a bit shady. Kinda similiar to a red light district. But then again you must remember that Munich is one of the safest cities in Europe. If you can get past the area, it is a nice hotel and clean.

Very friendly receptionists, packed with tourists from all over the world the staff at the breakfast table was a bit overwhelmed. I paid EUR 168 ( incl breakfast) during a weekend. I did not think that this was a great deal for a standard hotel at a less than acceptable location. I will spend a little more and will try to find a more Bavarian atmosphere.

Room Tip: Try to avoid a rooms looking to the street - it's a busy one

Whilst Munich can hardly be classed as one of Europe's friendliest cities, the Courtyard by Marriott is a welcome little oasis, despite the seedy local environment.
The hotel is just a few minutes walk away from the city's central railway station, and is within walking distance to the old city and its attractions. Once across the busy ring road, the old centre of Munich awaits.
The hotel is very clean and well maintained, though I guess the rooms towards the rear of the building would be preferable given a choice. Our room was located at the back of the building, and was fine. Comfortable beds, clean bathroom and toilet, adequate wardrobe space and good lighting.
However, where the hotel really shines is with the staff, especially those employed in the bar/restaurant area. The hotel restaurant is excellent value for money with first class food, well presented in stylish and comfortable surroundings. It's the type of place you'd willingly return to, even if it was a stand alone restaurant separate from the hotel. The staff of the restaurant/bar are hard working, polite, attentive and very friendly and are a credit to the establishment. The buffet breakfast is varied enough to suit all tastes, and the dinner menu (plus daily specials) impressive.
In the main, the reception staff are also very helpful and have good communication skills, even during busy periods at the front desk.
The hotel is definitely worth visiting as, overall, it is an excellent place to stay.

Room Tip: Probably best to have high floor, at rear of the building.

I have just stayed at the courtyard on my first trip to Munich . It is in a great location. About a 5 minute walk from hotel to the main train station and 15 to 20 minutes walk to Xmas markets and Mariplatz. I walked everywhere which was a bonus not having to catch buses or trains. The room was nice and the beds very comfortable. I liked the heated towel rack in the bathroom for drying clothes. There was no free wifi in rooms , however there was one hour free in the lobby every 24 hours and also free use of hotels computers in their business centre. The area does have casinos and a few sex shows, but I didn't find it sleazy and felt safe walking around with others. There were reasonably priced restaurants close by. I had the breakfast in the hotel one morning and it was a full buffet breakfast and it was very good, although a little pricey at €21. I can thoroughly recommend the courtyard Marriott .

While visiting friends on an overnight trip in Munich, I stayed in the Courtyard Marriott and thought the experience was right down the middle.

One big asset is the hotel's proximity to the main train station; I got to hotel in about 7 minutes or so walking from the station, and I took a wrong turn, so it should have been a little less. (As an aside, I did not take the train into the city; I took the Lufthansa City Bus from MUC, which stops right next to the train station, and is rather convenient, but that is a different review...)

The hotel staff was quite friendly, but I think I got a trainee who was new to the role, and here is my experience... when checking in, I was told that my rate included breakfast, as the box on my registration card was marked accordingly by the hotel staff. However, when i checked out, I was informed that breakfast was NOT included, but free internet was part of the rate. When I asked to see the registration card, the "Yes" by breakfast included was scratched out, and the "No" box checked. I'm not really sure how this happened, though I do remember the clerk had a "Trainee" designation on her name tag. Is it a big deal? No, but it did detract from a nice stay.

One other issue that I ran into was the amount of noise at night. There was a lot of it that night, which did wake me up and prevented me from falling back asleep quickly.

With the above, the rest of the stay was what you expect from a Courtyard; the entire staff was quite friendly and willing to help out with maps and site-seeing options. The room was clean, open and the bed comfortable.

One last thought about the location--as others have stated, the hotel is near a fair number of casinos, which may cause some concerns. I didn't feel any issues, but am only passing along so others are not surprised.

Agree with other postings that hotel staff friendly - EXCELLENT breakfast.
good basic accommodation and central location.
Beds comfortable and room clean with quiet and powerful heating/air conditioning.
Wifi quick, but chargeable!

Room Tip: rooms facing courtyard (like 117) are quiet.
